:agree: about the new camaro and the new challenger --
they both have that
'one last chance'
opportunities ----

but --when the 2 seater t-bird was re-introduced -
it never won back the old time fans ??

Hi Ira-I like the new T-Bird BUT it has a small V-8 and it just doesn't have a performance option like it should!
It's really for the older crowd-at least that's the only genre I've seen driving them.
It's to bad-I love the 55-57's the best and then the 69-72's those are cool but super heavy and still not that fast.
They should have put a 429 or 428with 2-4 barrels or the Supercharged them like the Mustangs.
Just my .02.
Have a great one-GB. :-)

ok --this might sound like a lame entry   :-D

but - back in july of 2004 --
toyota made one of their most rare marketing mistakes --

they announced and proclaimed the greatness of their all new
2005 tacoma --BEFORE their dealers could get rid of their 2004 inventory :dunce: :dunce:

they bragged about their awesome bigger, better, faster , safer ...... blah blah blah blah
new model -- so that NOBODY wanted the old one--

in the meantime -- i always liked the cool little design of the old model-
and was planning to get one 'someday'

but - to me - the new big tacoma was//is just like another big dodge dakota-
and --didnt like it -at all

also - a few friends of mine already had over 200,000 miles on the little old
tacomas --pulling trailers and tree stumps !!!
------------------------------------------------

and then --not sure about the rest of the planet --
but down here -- my exact old model
= the 'vehicle of choice' :-) for all the hillbilly goofs
who lift their truck bodies SIX FEET off the ground :w00t: :w00t:

i know my truck(S) can never become $$ valuable - because over the ten year
run --- more that a million were sold !!!!!!!

but - i do think --they will become classics :-) :-D
---------------------------------
when i got to the local dealer --the price was so low -
that i bought 2 (like TWO) in 10 minutes--

ok --who else thinks they bought future classics -- made in the past 10 years ???
:-) :-)

I think it's fair to say the problem with the re-introduction of the t-bird is that it didn't stay true to it's heritage. The Camaro and Challenger are much more accurate reincarnations. In fact, the similarity and consistency of the replacement challenger's appearance is unmistakable. The problem today is a different set of challenges -- getting anyone to buy cars at all and not enough inventory of these 2 muscle pony cars. Whatever, both cars are instant classics and promises to reward buyers with mucho mucho futuro dineros.

well - lets hope we are around in 2040 to find out  :-)

also --the reason -
i am hesitant to jump in and totally agree with your new
camaro/challenger examples -- ( although there are NICE !!!)

is that -- 5 years from now --
these may have served ONLY to have made the real original
67-69 models much more valuable ??

I prefer not talk about the cars that are gone..... :sadno:

My current "classic" is a 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder. I bought it new back in 2002. I waited 6 months to get it (Yellow was hard to get). You may not know but it is probably one of the rarest cars on the road (not counting mega-buck cars). They only imported less than 5000 a year into the USA for 2000-2005. It is light weight (under 2200 lbs), mid engined, drop-top and a blast to drive! However not many have been kept in good condition. I have kept mine in a garage, it's never seen the rain. When I got it I had time to drive it every now and then, but I have not driven it much at all lately. Too busy. So I only have about 2500 miles on it right now. Next summer I will put some more miles on it I hope.

Here is a picture I found on-line. Pretty close to mine... but I have made some subtle changes..... and some handling and performance upgrades. :angelic:

I learned from my dad to NEVER get rid of your car, just put it in storage on blocks, and keep it waxed.

I know my truck and car aren't classics but they take a lesson from there ancestor cars,Both in looks and performance ;-) My s10 is pushing close to 114hp and my monte 323hp :w00t: (race track ready and approved by the local comission-I bought it at the local speedway after seeing it run the quarter mile at light speed)
Need to put cobras on the front of the s10 after I fix the monte-Thinking of lowering the s10 to accent the 10s on the back of it

Here's a small handful of cars that are around now, which can be had relatively inexpensively that I think may someday be worth something:

  • [*:3gzip48y]Pontiac GTO (The recent one that was designed by Holden, Aussie GM division)
    [*:3gzip48y]Mazdaspeed 3
    [*:3gzip48y]Ford Focus SVO
    [*:3gzip48y]Ford Mustang SVO Cobra
[*:3gzip48y]Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 (the Hertz version, if/when they start to sell off to the public)
[*:3gzip48y]Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (Ok, not cheap, but these will not go down in value much if kept in good shape, and eventually appreciate)
[*:3gzip48y]1999-2001 Porsche 911 (available in the mid $20k range)
[*:3gzip48y]Mercedes 190e 2.3-16v (Not 8 valve version I have, but the 16 valve version with the sport seats, sport suspenstion and a 5-speed).
[*:3gzip48y]BMW M3 (The first M3 in the E30 body style)

There are more... just thought of these as I was reading this thread...
