I Am Legend
was quite lucky to have lived --way back then -
when gas was like 50 cents --and TONS :-) of american cars were heavy -
and huge and had 400 HP --STOCK --

if i had kept 1/2 of those 60's bombs --
would have a $$ million bucks worth right now --

seriously --

had a 64 1/2 mustang
a 64 tri-power GTO
a huge bonneville
a 70 eldo with 500 cubes
a REAL shelby -all aluminum 2 seat COBRA !!! $$$$$$$$
THREE 67 big block vettes --$$$
a ferrari -- that J.GEILS helped me restore :-) -- PRICELESS
---and more--

a million ?? try TWO !!!!

anyway --WHO KNEW how incredibly valuable they would become-

all my friends always had these factory hot rods---
we would trash them around ( up north ) in the snow,
ice -- and SALT roads -- YIKES :dunce: :dunce: :nonono: :'-( :dunce:

so---------------------
WHO among us..... has the foresight - TODAY ??????????
to buy ANY vehicle -- and to preserve it --
KNOWING that its NOW on its way to 'collector' status ??

i did buy a few recently --( I THINK )???? :-D

but before i reveal my 'future classics' :-) :-O

lets hear what you guys have ??

A million bucks???? That Shelby alone if minty could pull a million. :jawdrop:

I would love to be able to collect at least one car but the reality of House, Food, Clothing, Utilities and all other miscellaneous expenses pretty much keep that from happening. I can only find junk for under $10,000 and most under $20,000 aren't that great, lots of bondo machines.

Well Ira-Now you got me talking.
Well first of all I had 4 cars while I was a senior in High School!! (1980'-1981')
I had my first car:the 1968' Impala station wagon 327 4 barrel 275 horse.
1966' Impala Super Sport 327 4 barrel. 275 horse
1973' Firebird Formula 400 400 4 barrel.
1971' Mercury Marquis 429 2 barrel.yes 2 barrel 320 horse-Incredible tire burner.

Then I had a 1979' black Trans-Am beautiful!! Bought it in 82' with 20,000 miles on it!! 403 4 barrel.Traded the Formula in fo it-stupid!
Then in 1993'
I had 11 cars!!

(1)1966' Caprice 396-still have.
(2)1966' Mercury Park Lane 410 Marauder 4 barrel 330 horse.
(3)1970'Kingswood Estate 454 345 horse
(4)1971' Custom Deluxe C-20 truck 402 300 horse
(5)1976' Caprice Estate 400 4 barell (3 seater!)
(6)1978' Custom Deluxe C-30 Dually 454 4 barell (HD)
(7)1980' BMW 320 S still have!
(8)1981' Camaro Z-28! still have
(9)1974' Laguna Type S-3 454 sold it last year:(
(10)1975' Laguna Type S-3 350 2 barrel.
(11)1968 Impala Super Sport 396 325 horse w/climate control-sold it 4 years ago:(

So if I had to have any of these back-I would want that 1973' Formula!! Man was I stupid!
I also wish I had that 1966'Impala Super Sport!
I'm very happy that I still have 4 cars but only 3 are collectors!
I need to get a 1965' Chevelle!! or a 66'!
Nice thread Ira-like I said:Now you got me going!!!
Have a great week-GB. :-) :-D

Sounds just like the one I had. Mine was maroon with white vinyl top, T-Tops, (I just loved that), crushed velvet interior, I installed hella lamps, suspension kit -- it was the bomb. Also one reason I have such a sentimental attachment to it pertains to a certain female... :w00t: I won't go into details.... But that was a long time ago and this November, will be our 25th wedding anniversary.

Well I once had:

Pontiac 68 Firebird and I loved that car but was very young and couldn't afford it so I sold it. :'-(
Chevrolet 87 Corvette Z52 which was kind of a piece of crap.
Fiat 850 spider which was extremely weak but could corner like it was a go cart.

Also had about a dozen motorcycles and a few cars not worth mentioning.

sweet story SD --
did your el camino have ANYTHING to do with it ?
:-) :-D :-)

You got something with el camino's you want to share Ira? Somehow, I sense that there is some deep seeded relationship between you and el-camino's.

And no, my story had nothing to do with the el camino. 20 years ago, I owned a towing company. One of my old junk tow trucks was sitting in my yard and a used car dealer came by wanting to trade me something for it. He asked me what I wanted -- I said an el camino, and a couple days later, he came by with a maroon el camino -- clean, no dents. That's how I came to owning that guy.

redbenjoe

I Am Legend
norm --was asking -- because in southeast florida --an el camino in decent shape --
is THE PRIZE ----
girls just jump in the front -- the back --all over it :w00t: :w00t:

--------------------------------
ok -back to the topic --

who among us --

that will be classics in 2040

I think the classics of our day are going to be the untouchable antiques of tomorrow. Heck, maybe today, already when you see $250k mustangs, $200k corvettes, $80k challengers, etc. With the ever skyrocketing cost of gas and environmental concerns, focus on efficiencies and emission regulations, new hybrid and electric technologies, we are going to enter a new phase of cosmetic bling bling and away from actual performance classics.

But.... if you can afford them, get yourself a new camaro or challenger. With super low car sales right now, and the longevity of those two models and the brands possibly at issue, these promises to be low production cars that will cost a bunch of money later. See, Ira -- you DO get another chance at redemption of prior idiotic mistakes. :-D
