I Am Legend
unless we have a hurricane or a tsunami --
nary a day goes by --without me taking a boomer to the beach --at least for an hour or so :surf:

i usually sit at the highest point --10 yards from the open sea --
and with no buildings or trees or antennas to block my FM reception -- right ?
WRONG !!

i am always carefully ' diddling with my antenna ' :w00t: :-O :-)
just to get any clear stereo
-------------------

now every town has at least one old timer --with great knowledge of scientific matters -- :-)

so --i enlisted his advice --
explaining that i 'should ' be getting perfect stereo with NO antenna at all !!

he said " wrong FOOL "

'FM broadcasting is highly directional--
these stations are $$ BUSINESSES --out to capture their maximum audience -

and are surely not gonna bother aiming their signal at 6 dumb surfers, 4 sunk divers and 3 old fisherman -
NONE have any money -- and never listen anyway !!!

instead -- its the opposite -
they point their signal -- inland and downtown to the 50,000 LISTENERS with actual money to spend
-----------------

everybody here agree ?

You should do what they do in Russia when they can't get reception.

Radio sucks anyway.
Nothing but ads and mostly mainstream BS music.
for me it's my own music that I choose to listen to!!!

Every time I listem to local fm radio all the music sounds the same. There seems to be no imagination or even real intruments in popular music. I prefer jazz and old school. I don't know what has happened to music but it is going downhill. They make singers out of people who can't sing using auto-tune technology so the the Jennifer Lopez's of the world sound like they can sing. I will stick with Pandora.

Depends on the broadcasting tower system, some are directional and some are omni directional. For you, being on the coast, it is probably a directional system as there is no need to broadcast local FM stations out to sea and waste the wattage (and cost) in that direction. There is still a degree of omni directionality to a directional system, it just doesn't have as high a gain in your location/direction

agree -- it not a total void at the beach --
but --anywhere that has a real population --is so much better
