Anyone seen or have any ideas on cool looking floating Shelves out there. I'm looking to get some to make a wall of Boom! to show of my boomers.

Thanks

This is exactly what I wanted, no unsightly supports, no visible uprights and no shelf supports interrupting the placement of BB's. I decided to display the shallow (measured front to back/depth) BB's on one wall with the BB's with a greater depth on another wall to maximise the available footprint of every shelf while taking up the least space in the room.

What I found in UK is that most (at least, all I could find) pre-made 'floating' shelves were only supported by a couple of bolts into the wall while the shelves were in the region of 10"/225mm deep. This may be fine for bulky lightweight stuff on shelves but I didn't want to risk heavy BB's on these (for the most part way too deep) shelves so I used right-angled brackets (with no bracing piece) to make sure there was nothing to get in the way of side-by-side BB displays.

The one thing I did out of due consideration for my BB's was go seriously overboard on the amount of brackets I'm using as the wall is made with some kind of reconstituted-grey-ash-block-stuff AND, with no bracing strut on my chosen brackets, more brackets will be required. As the brackets will be hidden by BB's anyway, I'm using two, three or even four times the amount of brackets that would normally be required. I bought them at trade prices from a wholesaler to keep the costs down but the real downside is all the drilling for the screws & plugs that's needed. It's not something I'm used to but I'm getting there, pics will follow in due course.

Good luck.

Ooh I'm excited to see the results! I just finished putting up my first boombox shelving and really like it.

Me too! I'm finding it a bit of a struggle as it's hard work (for me ) but a logical, steady approach is allowing for good progress, I'll start a new topic soon to show you progress once I have a little more accomplished.

'Stage 1' will see the room painted throughout with shelving on two opposing walls and some BB's on display.
'Stage 2' will be the floor area and lower levels for 'other audio'. ;-)
'Stage 3' will be curtains, wall art etc. incorporating areas for vinyl albums, cassettes and (possibly) CD's and then find 'stuff' to fill any available space that may be remaining.

When the Boom Room is as complete as it can be for now, it'll be time to see what I can dream up for my main living room - that'll also be an interesting project for me but more on that in due course!

Well my neighbour has just dropped off a load of 9" wide solid wood hefty planks for me for free so I guess that's what my new shelves will be made of lol

That was very generous. Heavy shelves need much more support, the total weight of heavy shelving full of hefty BB's makes me feel uneasy about adequate securing but I'm no expert. As I have gone overboard with shelf supports I can get away with shelving made from relatively lightweight - but strong - 12mm plywood with an 'L' shaped softwood lip on the front offering a good edge for presentation/painting whilst providing extra rigidity. Heavy BB's will not be an issue (*gulp* :w00t: :-D).
