Fisher 490 vs. Marantz 7000

I was wondering how these two classic three-piecers compare to each other. Does anyone here have both of them to make a quick comparison or has anyone at least heard both of them in person? And are there any other classic / high quality three-piecer boomboxes that should be mentioned here?

The Fisher 490 wipes the floor with the Marantz and then wrings it out in the bucket.

The Marantz is very nice, really high quality sound, but the Fisher is just more of everything.

Those high end Fisher's are up in the highest echelon of sound quality AND volume, not many radios
can come close to their power and range.

I agree with Rick and even though the Marantz is built great and has nice Mello sound they are not loud nor bass monsters I would say nicest 3 pc is Telefunken Studio 1 . That's my opinion

zippy --if you get into the nice 3 piece units --your choices for great sounding boxes is just about double

the least talked about are the 3 piece aiwas and pioneers -
but they are as good as any other brands

Of course the Telefunken sounds superb and there are many others great three or four or whatever piecers. Not to forget the WX-1. But most of them aren't able to rock the streets. While the WX-1 for example is loud with deep bass it is simply too heavy to carry around. Others like the Telefunken don't do well on batteries and most aren't loud enough for outside use, they are compact stereos.
So my question is: Which are the kings and quenns of carry-on-your-shoulder three-piece boomboxes?
So far it seems the Fisher is leading.

The Fisher 490 is the only radio I've attempted to carry and deary me is it HEAVY.
Not sure how heavy a WX-1 is but the 490 is heavier than a 777.

I don't like carrying threepiecers, too high a risk of losing a speaker for me.

I agree, carrrying the 490 around would be punishment indeed. You'd need a spinal realignment at some point.

The Wx-1 is a heavy beast. I hate carrying it without batteries, I could only imagine trying to carry it with batteries. HK-9000 isn't a fav in this group but as a 3 piece it rocks. Out of my 3 piecers my GX-33 is a beast and not so heavy. If it had 8 inch woofers it'd smoke an M90 IMO. Just sayin.

Another hard to carry box is the VZ2000 huge and very heavy I also agree with Rick as some 3pc boxes the speakers don't lock very good especially the fisher giants

Man I sooooo disagree. The monster fishers just scream quality and I personally prefer the speakers on either side look to the speakers stacked under look. Different strokes for different folks I guess
