It's just too bad that in the era of 10+ bands they tend to put the lowest frequency at 100Hz. Would've been great to have more options for bass fine tuning. Hitachis have "63Hz" but I think it affects on higher frequencies than that. Though the Q-value surely is very low too (effects on a wider range, lower number means wider curve, higher=steeper).
But if you are a fiddler, you may want to check out the chips that are used for the EQ. It shouldn't be massive work to alter the frequencies, I found the datasheet for the ICS 5 band EQ and the frequency is set with two small caps per band.

I also have a Lasonic TRC-931 with one and a ICS STR-5091 but it's missing the equlizer buttons.

Keep in mind when most of these radios were made, digital music wasn't invented yet which could produce low frequencies on recordings.Line Out said:

Well, no. Low frequencies have definitely been around, but most of these plastic boxes are really struggling below... lets say 70Hz. Of course the best boxes and grails are more capable and some can produce very low frequencies. And the cassette players usually extend at least to 50-60Hz. HiFi decks can go below 30Hz with ease. For example, 70's and 80's disco can have quite a thump and low bass... Its not about type of music. And an extreme sample, organ music, played in a big church, can go really, really deep, even below 10Hz. Thats been around for some time eh?Lasonic TRC-920 said:
It's possible, you just have to lurk inside and find the EQ-IC, then find a datasheet for it. Mostly they have used a 5-band IC or two to create a 10-band EQ. The frequencies are controlled via external components.
