I am going to an Epic car show this weekend by invitation only to Vandenberg Air Force Base where the US launches all their secret satellites.

Two day event, 100 Exotic cars, 61 Ferrari's, full driving tour of the base, buffet lunches, dinner at the Hitching Post (from the movie Sideways), wine tasting, 40+ Ferrari caravan up from Los Angeles.

I leave in an hour!

I'll be reporting back with pictures!

Wish me luck!

Damn, Chris!! See if they will let you get a photo op of your 308 in front of a fighter jet. That would be kick-ass!

Don't forget... we want lots of pictures. :agree:

Hey Guys,

It was a radical get together and being on the base was amazing. We got a full on tour of some vintage launch pads and got up close and personal with some rocket.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites with about 30 other car owners and they had a special parking section with a security guard. I swear the lobby and front court yard looked like the opening scenes of the movie "The Cannon Ball Run"! I was waiting for 2 priests to drive us in a 308.

Below is just a fraction of the cars. I had camera issues, but here is some of what was there.

Very cool! The first thing I thought of when I saw the picture of the old launch controls was "Turn the key, sir!"

Great pics Chris, all that old control stuff is like something out an old Bond film. I was half expecting to see Blofeld rock up up in a wheel chair :-D

The cars looked cool also, looks like a great turnout :-)

Hey Guys....I figured since most of us are Analog guys that you would dig the consoles. Amazing we used to control nuclear weapons with that stuff :w00t:

Yep, "Re-Sale Red", the only color to have when you own an F Car. Also known as "Arrest Me Red"!

This is from today's little run up the mountain...

Nice Pics! Your car looks amazing! Especially, since you're on a dirt road! BTW I saw a great documentary about IBCM's called "The World's Biggest Bomb" pretty amazing story! It's on Netflix if you have it.

I just watched an hour long show on the biggest nuke. No ICBM action! But it was still cool

Was this display picture accidently posted from a trip to the "Lions Den" that you stopped at on the side of the road? Not quite sure what I'm looking at here

Awesome cars! I've been to Vandenberg AFB. No fighter jet squadrons stationed there. Not sure if they have a runway. Probably only launch pads. It's so beautiful along the Pacific coastline. I would've love to been there to see all those lovely rides.

Totally man! I love this stuff mostly because my father and grand father worked in the aerospace industry and I grew up around it all.

Vandenberg actually has one of the longest runways in the country, able to land the Space Shuttle if needed. They had plans to launch the shuttle from there, built a pad and control room at great expense, but never did.
