while we are so involved in the collection and the preservation
and the frequent quest for perfection -- of our beloved classic boxes--
i am so often reminded of the pure fun of just taking boxes out in the world.
---------------------------------------------
tonight --is friday night (here in the states)
and several nights per week --and always on weekend nights-
the kids in the hood have outdoor parties.
--even registered mature adults have their parties outside down here
in florida --
so ' fine home stereo ' is useless (then)
anyhow --
about 15 minutes ago --a bunch of kids come over-
as usual to borrow a box------
AND batteries AND a CD player AND batteries for that
AND the line-in cord AND my only jaetee mix tape.
they all have their OWN CDs
--------------------------------
the fun part for me --is to watch them all bopping off -
playing the box -
while none would ever notice or care that the antennas are
tripple bent --the deck door is gone --
most knobs are 'non-original'--
a slider cover is missing -
the battery cover is cut from a 2 x 4
and the back is held on by duct tape --
----
so --in their style --they are enjoying boomboxes in the
' no -matter-what -- as long as it thumps' condition-
to me --thats a thrill
amen
