Went to pick up a repaired box from my tekkie's shop and to my amazement saw a JVC RC-550 lying on the floor all dusty looking! It's quite a shock seeing one of those for the first time ever. can't believe how large it is! A mono box this big?...looking like that?
So it turns out that an old boy left it there to be repaired but didn't like the estimate the tekkie gave him on it so was going to collect later in the week. I asked the tekkie for the old guys number and called him a week later and had a deal with him.
He told me he bought the box from Harrod's on a staff discount in 1978 or 79 for £130. It been on a side table in his bedroom in daily use ever since.
It was dusty but in good condition and more importantly it's all complete.
It's hard to find good stuff in the wild in the UK nowadays so this is a good score.
