ebay? CraigsList? Meh...

Look, folks, there IS an alternative to fleabay and Craigspissed. It's named 'kijiji', and you're a lot safer buying stuff from it than anywhere else. It's free, too. You SHOULD get to meet the sellers, and find out where they live, so that should obviate the problem of rip-offs. Just Google 'kijiji' and the name of the population centre nearest you, and follow the easy instructions. You wouldn't believe the deals I've gotten from kijiji, and I won't strain your credulity describing them. I'm not a flack or shill for kijiji, either, nor a flipper. I've got enough $ to be happy with. I just hate waste, and seeing usable goods go into a landfill.

If Kijiji is operated by ebay, i've not heard of it. And I'd like to see hard evidence of it. I've gotten a lot of merchandise at ridiculously low prices off Kijiji. It costs nothing to check out, and nothing to advertise there, either. Instead of backing and filling at this, just try it out. You won't get taken.
There's even a section called 'Free Stuff', that's all free. All you have to do is go and take it away. I missed out on some nice shelving in there cos I can't drive and couldn't get there quickly enough.

Seriously? What website are you browsing the ebay (classifieds) logo is big and bold in the upper left hand corner of the website. Not that it matters cause doesn't ebay own craigslist anyway? Maybe this is the gateway for eventually shutting it down.. They gotsta suck more money out of it somehow.

Not on mine, it ain't. And I dinna know how they're getting money, nor do I care overmuch. There are over 5 million FREE classifieds in my area alone.
We're talking about kijiji here, and the possibility of ebay owning it (I doubt that) so I don't see how shoehorning Craigslist into the discussion is relevant.

I must convey my apologies to you. Upon further examination, I DO see that kijiji is under the auspices of eBay. It's in eentsy-teenstsy script at the bottom of the page. But I still don't give a hoot, since it's free. I am about to see if I can score a tape deck off there. Excelsior!

Wow, ebay owns 25% share of CL and doesn't appear to be able to purchase any more stake...so they buy up or start Kijiji as a rival to CL in order to overtake it and perhaps sink it so they can start charging advertising or whatever they do to suck the profits out of it and ruin it....

No your probably right LOL not relevant at all..

another corporation ruling our lives

FROM WIKIPEDIA

"Kijiji offers similar services and is seen as a competitor to Craigslist with the biggest differences being that Kijiji gets much less U.S. traffic and has an extensive pets section. Kijiji's owner eBay is also a minority shareholder in Craigslist. In April 2008, eBay launched a lawsuit against Craigslist claiming that their executives were attempting to weaken eBay's investment, while in May of the same year, Craigslist filed a counter-suit claiming Kijiji had stolen trade secrets and that eBay used misleading tactics to promote the service."

If you install the kijiji app on your iphone, it only lists Canada locations. No other location is permitted.

If you visit via the web, kijiji.com and you are in the USA, it immediately redirects to ebayclassifieds.com (See image below):

Basically a lot of pets, probably because CL makes listing pets a bit more troublesome. The rest of the listings are sooo sparse that it's almost useless. Without massive user base, it will never reach critical mass, the point at which people feel they must use that website or else they will miss out either on deals if a buyer, or if a seller, then miss out on a potential sale. From what I see where I am, it's a waste of time unless I want to spend $1500 on a dog. Don't want to miss out on THAT bargain.

Anyhow, on the screen shot, you can clearly see the unmistakable eBay affiliation since it's titled eBay Classifieds, both on the webpage, and on the redirected URL. It probably automatically redirects because it can read the eBay cookie (and who isn't already a registered eBay user) and knows where you are.

BTW, as for the kijiji app, if you are not in Canada, don't bother wasting your time unless you want to install it only to immediately UN-install it again.
