Dumb things you have done with a boombox......

Like taking it apart when you were a kid 'just to see how it works' and screwing it all up?
Leaving it out in inclement weather?
Trying to repair one thing and breaking something else in the process?
Drops? Falls? Jury Rig repairs?
and the worst   throwing it out before you discovered Boomboxery or S2G and realized what you had and what you had done?
Tell us your stories!!

(I apologize if this is an already-covered topic)

I've done 'em all but my top 3 are pulling apart my JVC RC44J for no real reason and cosmetically killing it in the process; and tossing that one plus a beat-up Pioneer SK31, a silver Realistic/Sanyo aka double decker, an Emerson double decker (you know the one that had the 2 tape decks one on top of the other), another Emerson 3 piecer with '5 B+W TV (the big one)
and passing up a Phillips/Magnavox PowerPlay at a thrift for 6 bucks......what the freaking hell was wrong with me?
DOH!!! Luckily I found pocketcalculatorshow.com in 2008 and of course became MUCH smarter about these things, but that list above has been haunting me since and I will be kicking myself forever over these.

A newer one? My cat knocked my Panny RX-F9 mini off the kitchen table the other day....landed on the tile floor and NO DAMAGE whatsoever!! Just C cell batteries everywhere.....

A silly one: When I got my Sears 2199, it was missing an original knob and the previous owner just stuck a plain black knob in it's place. I took that knob and glued TIN FOIL to it so it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb :-D Luckily I found an almost-perfect match for the original knob at a swapmeet recently!

nope

bought it for 12 pounds in a junk store in Brighton in 1994 - I knew it was the one from LL Cool J's LP and HAD to have it

The tuner was so good I good get KISS 100 in Brighton - which is something my Alpine in my car never could

Gave it away in 2000 when I moved up to London

5 years later I find out how much they are worth - in pieces, let alone fully functional

:sadno:

At age 15, I took my brand new M70 and thought I could improve the bass by putting beads of silicone on the speaker surrounds. It did the opposite. Then at age 19, I took my speakers off my PC-5 and put them on the back deck of my Olds. They were stolen that night.

Hmm...the closest would be cleaning the speakers of a Cown 850 with a freaking vaccum cleaner at full speed :dunce:
Wooosh went the speaker surounds
The I sprayed contact cleaner into a pot on a tuner board in a VZ2000 :dunce: Luckily the signal came back after 30 minutes  .

OK...I had a Blockbuster GE that I bought new in 1984 and had it up till 1993. Sometime in 1991 or 92 before I sold it to one of my co workers, I bought Kicker Brand 6.5" "separates" that were rated at 100 watts each and installed them in my GE!! I had to cut some of the plastic inside somewhat so the casing would close right. The magnets on the Kickers were immense! It sounded actually good.....for awhile, but you could turn it all the way to 10, but it was like she was on 5! No cranking power, so luckily I kept the originals and put them back in and sold it shortly after that. .....oh and just recently I sprayed too much Radio Shack contact cleaner in the RX-5180 I recently bought from a cool member here, and now my station dial pointer is not in sync with the actual broadcasting station playing! Stupid, stupid, stupid!

On my CEC that I had as a teen I added a small LED for showing power on because my buddy's Marantz had it :-D I was going to add tweeters but never did :sadno:

Hmmm :hmmm:
I spilled a drink over the speakers of my Hitachi TRK-9990E while it was kickin' some tunes.
I blasted a Hifi Studio speaker during the sound check because I turned it all the way up in phono mode
I had a nice Sharp laying on a small swimming landing stage. When a few friends came down their weight pushed the landing stage down and a couple of centimeters underwater for two or three seconds. Enough to kill the Sharp :'-(

Left a GF-777 on top of a dumpster when I lost my storage unit. I think someone saved it, I saw them walking away happy.

Left a CFS-77 on a dumpster when I lost my other storage unit a few years later. Not sure if anyone saved that one. It should be mixed in with a bunch of car parts. Let me know if you find it. :-/

Methinks leaving a GF-777 on a dumpster and throwing the VZ out the window probably rank right up there with giving away the M90
But seriously, I feel your pain and I know that we will all NEVER make those mistakes again! :-)
Great stories!
