Hi,I was working on a Pioneer SK-51 today,the tape deck wasn't working
so I opened her up and got the deck apart and the belt was off track.

So after oiling, Lubing, and cleaning the belts & shafts & what not I got
It going but it was not easy getting the belt on just right as You literally
had to take the spindle-flywheel out to get at the belt good.

Springs, parts,on the floor, not fun but there was success!
The belt is pretty worn but after some fine tuning tomorrow I
should have it really running good.
Correct tape speed, running fine but belt gets on the bottom part
of the motorbase it's pretty worn.

The real fun part was when the string came off the tuner somehow! :nonono:
Man,that wasn't fun literally laid down next to the Boombox and used
Photographic memory for thiis!!
It was literally all off and I re strung it perfectly! Stations all lined up
perfect!

:-O I don't know how that happened but I have worked on my 71 & 95
and I remembered!
I've never re-strung a Boombox before either!

I'm pretty happy now but these Pioneer decks will try your patience
but they work great when they're fixed!
Photos of this beast when it's all going, just need the 2 screws that
hold the handle together-end screws, look like hex or Allen.

Have a good one! :-)

I will tear boxes down, rebuild decks, hammer out speaker grills and polish dial plexi, BUT I WILL NOT mess with a tuner string  NO WAY< won't do it.... :nonono:

I would lick the transformer first  :hmmm:

Thanks everyone! I pulled it apart again and did
a little more cleaning.
It's at correct speed and sounds pretty good.
Still need to replace the belt and really lube the
motor again.

I like this thing,I was going to use it for parts
but it has the black grills and is not bad! Especially
when I get the screws for the handle.

Sound is really good, similar to the 61,71.

Thanks Ira for the link Ira,I'll have to take a
screw out of my 71 to see what I need.

I love the Pioneers! I have then51,61,71,95,2 550's,
and a CK5II.
I need the 900!! :surf:

Yes no swearing today, once you open it up
It get's much easier the next time.

Practice is getting me better! With around
150 boxes I get some practice.
Actually like doing decks! But I need to learn
The 2 motor full logic next! Oh! :-O :hmmm:

Thanks again for all the replies-photo later
this weekend!

Have a good one!

the Z-28 tomorrow morning with the SK-51
cranking!

I've been buying restoration parts I need and
am replacing the brake lines later this month!

Also looking into a serious truck! 3/4 ton Suburban
4 by 4!! It might be a little out of my price range though!

I want this thing! Skid plates under everything!
Great condition 1999'. Man I wish! :-)

Hi Ramon,I believe the 51,61,71,95 are the same.
The 31 doesn't have the song finder,therefore
the 21 and 31 have the lower model deck.

I'm pretty sure on this. :hmmm:
BTW-let me know when you want to sell the 900!! :-D
