Damn, that's awesome! I'll need to mix up a bucket of the stuff.

How long did you leave them in the sun?

Awesome work Rick!

Did you have to completely disassemble each item before brightening it? :hmmm:

Go!

Blasterqueen: hmm only a faint smell, it's not like a bleachy smell or anything, just a chemical one, reminds me of the smell you get from a bottle of pills.

Sazeus: I left em all out for about 7 hours, but some things (like one of the Dreamcasts) were done in an hour or two. The recipe I followed used a much higher strength of hydrogen peroxide though. Saturday was very overcast most of the day too, but this time of year we get a lot of UV anyway to help the reaction.

Miles: I left everything assembled, which means you need to be very careful with the cleaning off of the stuff later on, but I much prefer that method to completely disassembling as the Retr0Bright is a paste and is easy to apply to the areas you want it on specifically. I used three different cloths (each getting progressively dryer) to then take it all off, which wasn't too difficult.

Yeah, this is the Yorx version. Been longing for one for a long time and NZ Boom was very public spirited in selling me his.

I'll do a proper photoshoot with it soon!

Gotta try this! How fascinating. This is the most useful thing I learned today. I just figured it was tar, but now that I think about it, even when you smell cigarette residue, that doesn't always come with yellowed surfaces. Some of the before and after pics out there are astounding. I was wondering why the battery cover on my Conion was perfect gray but the rest of the back was tinged yellow, and most pictures I see of others are this way as well. Maybe it's a smaller piece and didn't warrant a plastic containing flame retardant?

I tried it on the back case of my C-100. 6 applications over 48 hrs. with good sunlight. Nut'in.
I think it's the wrong kind of plastic.
I'm certain it can be removed, the yellowing is from a specific molecule and these recipes target it. I noticed that my C100 has it on the outside only, maybe yellowing from sunlight takes longer to remove or a stronger solution. Perhaps stronger hydrogen peroxide or a UV lamp would help?

Off topic if I may

Gluecifer, are your Dreamcasts Japanese? They can't be PAL due to the orange logo

I used to have a couple of ex-arcade machine multi-zone NTSC-J Dreamcasts with heaps of games but, I sold most of them a few years ago
I may have one or two NTSC J games buried somewhere I think (probably not very good one's) and I have a few VMS/VMU's as well. If you would care for them I could try to find them and give them to you...depending on what shipping would be of course
There's a chance that they may have been lost however
