Shipping would be a killer unless you order enough for free shipping, which if I remember correctly comes at the $50.00 level for those with an account. So, if you already have an account with these guys, it might be worth it.

Panasonics are even cheaper, around $1.29 a pack if I remember ...

We have a $0.99 store around the corner and they sell the Panasonic D's, 2 for $0.99, but I wasn't sure if they were for light duty work like a flashlight or if they could handle heavy load requirements like a Boombox

i have tried the panasonic d cells from my local dollar store in my boombox. the radio destroys them in no time. that was just playing the radio, no tape play at all

I figured as much. They are for low draw power consumption devices like flash lights. Not C100's
