Conion record light is on

Hey everyone, I have an issue with the Conion that’s not too concerning to me but it’s a little bit annoying. The recording light on the radio panel is always lit up as if it’s on and I have figured out how to turn it off. The main tape deck needs a belt replacement so I bet it is tied to that but I want to be sure. Here’s what I’ve done so far to try and fix it: put a blank cassette in the main deck and press the record button, put a Run DMC cassette in the top deck and hit record on the blank cassette. Neither of those things have worked so if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to let me know. Thanks a bunch.image.jpg

Looks like the tape mechanism is stuck in REC mode becaude the REC LED current is controlled by that big record bar switch

If you try to play a cassette right now in the main deck, your cassette will be recorded over. The main deck has a linkage that goes to the long bar so it’s currently actuated. When you do the rebelting, you’ll want to make sure that the linkage is put back correctly.

I started pulling the Clairtone version apart 5 years ago for restoring
Parts of it are still in bags and all these bags are in a carton box.
I've had three nice boxes sitting in my garage for at least 2 years.
I also bought an SCR-8 a few months ago, I don't know what I was thinking.
I guess I've lost the restoration bug I had for years and don't know if I'll ever get them done.

JD, if you're doing the belts, it's not that hard to do a check on something like the record bar and it's linkage.
Give it a shot and like I always suggest, take lots of pictures.
