Conion C100F No Power Only Dial Light comes on

Just Got this Conion C100F off of ebay in Pretty Good Condition only thing missing is the bottom tape drawer chrome piece

he said it was in non working condition

i took it apart today & there was some Aluminum Foil around the Fuse
it was a 1Amp Fuse that was in it so i replaced it with another one
& just tested the voltage of the transformer without being hooked to the radio and it was around 19V

& i did see one blown amp chip in it on the Left side
so i guess that could not let the boombox power up?

I did order 2 new ones from ebay

is there anyway to just test the other channel? the chip looks good on that one
and would it be ok to power up the boombox with the bad one taken out

yes you will be fine without a chip in there. But, if the HA1392 you purchased isn't from the same era this box came out though, it may not sound the same, or work at the higher volumes without blowing. The setup in this box is not per spec and runs the chip at its limits, and equivalents made after the fact are not quite the same quality. With any luck it all works fine, and with even more luck nothing else is wrong with the box that is causing it to blow.

ok i tried it without the bad chip in there & still just the dial lights come on and nothing else works
so i dont know what that means

Can you hear anything at all, even just a hiss like it's turned way down?

If could just be that you need both of them in order for it to work, they are in a bridged configuration after all.

also where does the red & black wire that connects to the transformer where do they go on the circuit board
i dont think they go to the power switch.

i would also check the cassette deck , if it's locked up/out it could cause power issues. also check the alarm circuit because that interferes with the power too.

Forgot to say, yes you really should install the two new chips you purchased, and save the old one that still works, that way you are evenly stressing two new chips instead of a new one and an old used one that may be marginal at this point.

if I'm not mistaken, the channels are bridged in a criss/cross config between the two chips. In other words the push and pull amps are on opposite chips. But I'm just going by memory here.

I Got it working again
it Had a broken trace on the power switch board

the left channel works

a loud pop noise is heard when turning it on maybe a dirty power button?

bass & treble controls are dirty cut in & out

Tuner Works
FM stereo light works sometimes
you have to play with the switches to get it working

tape players need new belts

top one i can here the motor running

bottom one i don't hear anything

I just hope the right channel is ok when i put the new transistor in it

they all pop when powered up. I wonder if they did that out of the factory?
