So, with the August 16th West Coast Meet coming I thought I would clean my collection and move it into the living room, move some furniture and take pictures of the whole collection.

In the process of taking my Lasonic TRC-920 (ironically) off the top shelf (King of the Collection) the glass shelf it was sitting on collapsed smashing the shelf below it sending large heavy shards of glass cascading down onto other shelves smashing them!

Wearing just sandals, I juggled the 920 while I watched shelf after self explode.

My only saving grace is, I had already taking the radio's off the lower shelves and no Blasters hit the ground. However, many in my Walkman collection did fall along with a few of my hand held TV's. 4 of my Walkman's and 2 of my TV's sustained damage, including a mint pair of headphones.

Needless to say, I'm :annoyed:  :bang: right now!
Well, here is the collection. The only thing missing is my J1 747 Super Jumbo which is off being repaired.

I'm pretty much farked until I can find more shelving glass!

You know, you don't have to use glass for shelving...?
There are other options out there that wont break..
Wood is good..
Steel is real..
If u plan it, use granite..

Yeah, It was one of those deals where my dad gave me all these glass shelves, plus they are see through so when you look up you can see the radios!

What should have been a few hour job has now taken all day! Oh Well :-/

Glad no boombox casualties!
Could have been worse.

Hey Chris, I think just being able to stand back and take in the sheer beauty of your collection must cheer you up just a little?!

James.... :-)
As bummed as I was about the shelves, I sat on the couch and looked at my super stack and wished I could just leave them in the living room. Of course I then realized that we would no longer have access to the up stairs, BUT who cares, all my stuff is down stairs!

Frank, as it was happening and I held the 920 up above my head, I was already thankful that there were no radio's on the shelves! I would be sick if that happened!

Holy crap Chris. Guess god was on your side not wanting any of your gorgeous collection crumpled.

Bad Boy Bill
In all our years of collection we have only seen a few "Real" tragedies of blasters falling off shelves, but I remember it didn't end well.

Indeed I was LUCKY!

I cleaned up all the broken glass before I took those pictures, and sadly, I lost well over $100 worth of glass. $100 I need to spend to replace. A $100 I won't be able to spend on a radio :annoyed:

Your collection looks great Chris. Sorry about your misfortune.
Thanks Styleking! I still can't believe that is my collection. There are some sick radio's there! I love looking at it all. :-D

reminds me of when my gf 777 went cartwheeling off the bed after turning my back for 3 seconds ,prolly the only time a gf 777 took a dive and survived without a scratch. lucky i had good padding under the carpet lol. i'm glad you made out ok minus the glass shelves , i don't trust glass shelves anything that fragile won't last 5 minutes with me. a lot of these shelving systems look great but scare the hell out of me just looking at them.

Great group shots mate, your collection has come along way

As every body else has said, fortunate that all the boxes had been moved away. Make sure there is no small pieces of glass left in the carpet before you start barefoot, rockin out in the boomroom again :-)

Thanks guys....I went through the shelving supports and made sure everything is secured.

I know why this happened too, and it was my fault. I had moved two shelves about 2 months ago, rearranging to get a better set up. It was at night (possibly while :weed:  ), my wife was sleeping so instead of HAMMERING the brackets down into place, I pulled on them and I thought I had them locked. Obviously, I did not!

This time I took a rubber mallet and pounded them down. The aren't going any where.

I just ordered replacement glass AND I got a discount from the lady at the glass shop because I was wearing my Jeff Gordon #24 hat! She had a Jeff Gordon mug on her desk and I asked her "So, since I am a JG fan I get a discount", she laughed and gave me $10 off

New shelves on Monday!

(mental note, no :weed: while working on the shelving)

I Am Legend
your shards of glass --

reminded me of your old earthquake story -
except --back then - you had no sandals , no light --danger galore-
