Picked this up the other day and thought the colour strange as most boxes are black, silver, white, red, blue but brown ?
is it really the best colour for a box ?
was it aimed at the cook in the kitchen and made to look like chocolate
clean and works - just needs a going over and a aerial - clock batt department need some cleaning

it's growing on me the more i look at it

That is a real nice color for a box :-D , I have a Marantz CRS4000 that is dark brown but the lighter looks alot nicer

Wow! That's a really cool, Bendycat. I've never seen a Roberts boombox and I most certainly have never seen one that shade of brown. It's almost like a copper brown. Elegant!

Soundwise, what would you compare it to?

it's a bit like a Hitachi 8080 - bit smaller, but feels well made which is what Roberts are known for - as for sound it's not bad (this one still needs a clean and a spray in side - medium for sound - clean with a bit of bass - more of a radio than a boombox sound if you know what i mean
I would put this half way at about 5 if 1 was a tinpot box and 10 being a M70 like :breakdance:

i have to agree with you on sound,ash-i have one too and although its no m70 eater (but lets face it what is?)it sounds much better than an equivalent hitachi-and like you say roberts were more akin to making transistor radios in the seventies with battleship grade strength and high quality sound reproduction....their forray into ghettoblasters in the eighties was not as big a success as its transistors....i know of only a couple or so roberts boxes ive ever owned-an rsr50 mini,rsr55 mini and now this-the rsr100.as for the choice of colour i think the chocolate colour is so resplendant and totally complements my other silver boxes.i dont know if they made any bigger boxes than this or why they chose hitachi to base the rsr100 on,but i strongly believe it to be the better animal of the two  ive got to a point where hitachis hold no interest with me :hmmm:

I love it. Brown has always been my favourite colour. It looks great! But I bet not many were sold... which means you got a rare one! My favourite brown box has to be the Sanyo M-X820. It is seriously sexy to me.
