...and then I decided to use a headcleaner tape on it, but before I tried playing a tape I tried the recordfunction for the first time so I don't know if it was the headcleaner or trying the record. Anyway it turns when play is pressed and rewinds and fastforwards just fine, but when in play it just makes a terrible "skidding" sound that sounds like it's either damaging the tape or the deck! Anybody have simular experiences? I really hope it's something easy like it's stuck between modes or something but I just can't figure it out! :'-(

Maybe I should add that it makes that "skidding" noise even when play is pressed but without a cassette in the deck, just quite as loud or often. Anybody have an idea what it could be?

Try putting in a garbage tape (ie. one you could care less about) and hit REC & PLAY at the same time, then STOP.... repeat this a few times. Sounds like the REC function is jammed.

G'luck.

Thanks for the reply jaetee! The REC button wont push down now. I think it will break if I force it so yeah it must be jammed :hmmm: Any advice on that? Man I was so happy the deck was working!

Ahhhhhhhhhh! I think I really messed it up now... Kept trying and now there is no tension in the stop button unless its held up and then put into play... Still has that skidding sound also so that didn't get helped either. F-----------------------ck!

What model is this :hmmm: because if this is an auto deck it may be stuck mid mode and will have to be manually set back. Have you or anyone changed belts  they may be bad and causing problems. Also the deck may need internal cleaning from collecting dirt over years and the white grease thickening and making it harder for movement. You may need to take apart or have it professionally done  good luck :-D

It's the telefunken studio 1M! I was so happy that the cassette was working,I got anout 24 hours of blasting mixtapes until I managed to mess it up... I don't think I can afford to have it proffesionally done so I'll just have to try to learn! Haha you guys are awesome for answering my desperate posts! :smooch: Can I get at the deck from the front? Do i just need a small hex key for the knobs?

These are well built and gorgeous bbx's.. These are fairly simple decks to work on. Small hex key to take of all knobs...I will let you know step by step tomorrow. Also we have a manual in PDF files. Check it out
