Car paint

Hello!
I hope this isn't off topic since it's Customization releated...
Does anybody have any experience using a metallic car paint on their boomboxes? Is it necessary to use some "basic for plastics" or is it OK to go straight with the metallic car paint? Right on the plastic parts. And what about some shiny lacker on the top? Is it worthy/mandatory?

automotive paint is fine...just as long as you use the correct primer for that type of paint...I use krylon spray paint on most of all the boxes i paint, i also use there primer it works very well ....and i like there flat and satin clear coat.....I have used duplicolor automotive paint on certin parts and i had no reaction mixing that paint with the krylon products....hope this info helps you ...goodluck with your project

As long as it is prepped right you can paint the box with any paint you want...
Me, I use spray paint for walls and car paint for pretty much everything else...
What kind of metallic are you wanting..? I did some House of Kolor flake on my SCR-8... lol

Car spray paint is really your only option if you are trying to get a perfect mix. I use it on my boxes . Primer is your friend. I have use adhesion promoter for plastics before spraying paint but I found it's not necessary.

...for a shiny finish you will want to apply Duplicolor clear coat after the paint has dried. Good luck with your project...

Personally for me a box can't have shiny paint ... the big black ones get away with being shiny as they are finished in bare plastic. But a silver or other metallic box must be flat in order to look quality and professional. So if I was going to clear-coat a box it would be matte or satin at the very least. And I would use a decent pressure spray to avoid the 'peel' that so many spray cans leave. I always use a spray gun and some over thinned metallic basecoat, doing a few coats over a few hours to get a perfect finish.
