Well I might have said polarity tester, but it's been said and declined....
Maybe a device to move CD lens out of the way for servicing purposes? Hold it to the motor to move it in or out?

Ok since nobody guessed right I will tell you

it is to center a voice coil on APM style woofers. Since you can't shim the gap and I don't trust the signal generator on my iPhone I decided to cobble this up to do the "AA" battery method. The switch was installed to make it a bit easier to use and cut the power rather than disconnect the terminals.
