The other day I was talking to a guy at my new job. He was someone I quickly singled out as a person who both understands and appreciates my interest in collecting these things.
Anyway I was talking about the National RX7700. I said if one ever came up, I'd be bidding with bared teeth.
Lo and behold, one comes up to end on auction that very day! I was so excited!! What a beautiful machine!!! It was a different model number (beginning with RS) but basically the same unit nonetheless. I noticed that it ended at about 8pm so I made a note of it and decided to set my alarm so as to get in with a chance.
I got distracted and forgot to set my alarm :-/
I remembered right on the ending time and was too late to bid :bang:
So now I'm bummed as f***
High five if you've ever had a similar situation! :-D

Yeah that sold for a cheap price too!

I was watching it but I knew I'd never use it so didn't bid.

Knew you'd never use it?!
What am I doing with so many boomboxes then?! :-D

Thanks Scotty... That was a fantastic price. Wish we could see those prices here in the states :-(

Very good price!
While we're on the subject of this, why is this such a grail-worthy Panasonic?
I've seen them around yahoo.jp and even there they go for major money.

I'd like to know what's so special about it, I don't see anything I particularly like from the looks.
To me it looks like a mid 70s mono made into a stereo. I've been less then enamoured
with most of Panasonic midsize boxes in the past, but have been pleasantly surprised by some
exceptions.

I'd love to want to need one if someone could tell me why I should.

Rock On.

"I'd love to want to need one". Best.
I used to think the same way as you, glue. But lately I've been looking at it differently. I see it as a mega-quality unit. I imagine it's very heavy and that you would feel some
Definite weight as resistance when using the knobs. I imagine the clicks and sounds would sound very solid and metal. And that the cabinet would not vibrate with the bass. And the sound of the tape door closing is HOT

I have heard it weighs more than an M90........metal chassis inside, flywheel tuner, etc.

and have you seen the depth of that thing from side profile? I bet if you went inside that tape door you'd end up in Narnia! :w00t:
