Boomboxing in bad weather - your opinions

So this is what came to my mind lately...

"Oh, the weather outside is frightful..."
but damn going outside with a boombox is so delightful

The weather in Hamburg is awful recently - no snow but only rain...and if it snows, it only becomes cold mud on the ground .
But I would love to take out a boombox next friday because a friend is coming to visit me.

Last year I took out my Unisef out in really cold weather and when I got back home, it started to fog up immediately and really got wet on the outside because it got so cold when I had it outside.
Only fair to mention it was between -10 and -15 degreees clesius.

I guess it is a general no-no to take a box out in rain or snow.

But what about border-weather-conditions like fog or really cold weather as mentioned above?
I am sure it is not good for the boxes after all - but do you take out your boxes?
How bad does it really harm them? Weren't they built for outdoor use?

Soo - don't get me wrong guys - i certainly wont go partying with my C100 in pouring rain
We are talking about some daily-use boomers here...for example I have a beaten Crown in my kitchen and it gets wet there frequently. i adjust it with wet hands when I am doing the dishes and so on - it fogs up when the hot water is running or when I cook. So far it worked perfectly...no problems at all...

Well...I am just curious for your view on things

one time i was chillin with my watson outside, and suddenly it started rainin like ****, and i started runnin like hell, because i was so scared of that heavy rain, water kills electronics, but i was lucky, it was wet but only outside, i just dryed it and had no problems with it.

but i agree with max that winter is the beaddest time for walk-around lovers!! i want the summer back!!

I remember "back in days". When I would be blasting my RCM-90 in Cold Canadian Weather. The batteries would die quicker. But I never took it out in the winter. I use an Old Aiwa CA-100 in my bathroom. Hot Showers daily, and no issues what so-ever

I consider myself an expert in this field.

As far as steady or heavy rain-not recommended!!

I've been out in normal rain with a couple of plastic bags.
That way you don't wreck her and then you get under some trees
and your ready to rock!!!
But with a little snow,same thing-light snow with plastic cover and
If the Boombox is small enough a canvas bag to go over it all for
added protection.
The big thing is the cassette player-Temperatures!!
They run good to about -4 to 0 degrees Celsius (30-32)Fahrenheit.

As far as the radio,good to about -10 to -15 Fahrenheit.
-20 is about the coldest I go with Boombox!

Heck bring em' outside!!

with GB but will stress keep the water out as it will wreak havic with the electronics. Moisture is also an enemy of the metal parts, and the speakers as moisture will cause rusting and staining over time.
For these reasons use a junker or marginal box in the wet weather and save the nice boxes for good weather.

As I have to walk to work regardless of the weather this had been an issue for me over the years, and I've found a satisfactory solultion.

1, DON'T take out a grail. I like to take out a midsize box the size of something like the GF-8989, something a bit smaller than an M70, mainly because of number 2..

2, Make a cover for your box. I've found the best things to use is the clear plastic bags that quilts/comforters/doonas come in. These are big, square shaped clear plastic that is thicker than normal plastic bags and have zips or fasteners around them to make them seal quite well. One of these can be easily modified to have a handle poke up through it.

3, Use a strap, even better; get one off Blu Fuz. Make your all-weather boombox rig so the handle can come out of the plastic bag and be have strap attached to the handle.

4, Carry an umbrella. Having a strap on the box means you can have it over your shoulder and have an umbrella in the same hand that then offers even more shelter for your boombox.

I've had this rig numerous times when it's been raining and it's protected the box nicely.

I agree on the plastic bag,I use a pillow bag or I have a couple of good
quality trash bags just in case it get's ugly out while your out.

I also agree unless it's absolutely no chance of storms then don't bring
a Grail!!

Unless it's a beater and you have 2nd. but still we have weather on
most of our phones now so use good judgement.
As far as eggs now that's a different story!!

I say have a beater egg and don't worry about itneven in the worst
weather and then you can tell everyone how admirably it performed
