welcome to you!you will quickly find that after a few years you will be hooked and like me your boombox back catalogue will run into 3 figures :w00t:
the best feature of a boombox is its tape deck, after all, thats the feature that makes a boombox a boombox-the freedom to express your personal choice in musical tastes-thats what it was about in the eighties and thats what its about today-music to play in your box?anything from the eighties-mainly rap and hip hop,but anything that fits into the 80s scheme of things is cool-modern music is rubbish so dont insult your boombox with any of that lol
cd playing boomboxes took off in the nineties to be fair and are seen by many collectors as rubbish, due to their ugly looks and plasticky construction
as a recommendation to you your first box should be a gf sharp, something like a gf9090 or 9191 to get started,or why not try a jvc-if you can stretch to it an m70 is a sure fire hit-ask anyone here
were all a set of friendly people on here so feel free to ask what you like and enjoy your stay with us,hopefully a long time :breakdance:
and its a pity your not in uk i have a pc55 jvc and d8734 philips available
good luck ;-)

CD's were common on boomboxes of the late 80's and early 90's. You should have lots of luck finding one!

New York probably was the capital, but probably a lot were thrown out. Many Australians have big garages and tend to hoard stuff!
A boombox is something that remains useful even after the cassette breaks down, as they can be used as a workshop radio etc.
Also, Conion and Lasonic boxes are almost impossible to find here...

And to the OP, some CD boomboxes are good, mainly 90s Panasonics. Some of these sound awesome.

Welcome aboard Oscar704!

Lots of threepiece boxes were sold in .au but not many of the big onepiece boxes that typify the 'ghettoblaster' were sold over here.
Theres still a lot to choose from. The idea is to talk to your friends with them and have a listen and see what you like.

If your friends are using them I'd LOVE to see some photos of these in action if you can get some, or if they have a presence online somewhere.

I've got a pretty reasonable collection of nice boxes so please feel free to PM me if you need any specific help

Good luck!

Rock On.
