Lastly, I walked 57 laps around the track. The track is 1/4 mile around. ..meaning I walked 14.25 miles all with a boombox.
I'm not going to lie to you...I'm hurtin'. Time for a nap...

14.25 miles carrying a boombox is pretty darned impressive! Well done! Furthest I've ever done was 13 miles running a half marathon but that wasn't in the heat or carrying a boombox...I couldn't walk for a couple of days after. So I have a rough idea of what you've been through...but not quite.

No doubt. Like you northerner the wife and I walked 8.7 miles yesterday our longest in 2 years (not carrying a boombox) and my legs are feeling it today. Thanks again guys...Needless to say I'm a WRECKED. Just woke up from sleeping for a few hours...and now the Boombox work begins. Every radio has to be fully cleaned. Every radio is covered in sweat and dirt. Although the weather was cooler this year (last year 100 degrees, this year 85) I was sweating profusely all day and some of the night.
I am proud to say that every radio I brought performed flawlessly, although most of the time I simply used an FM transmitter plugged into a Bluetooth receiver playing music from either my mp3 collection or Pandora off my phone. I also listened to local FM stations.
All through the event the concept of carrying a boombox caught on as people would stop me to ask the questions we are all so familiar with, "How old is it?", "What does it weight?", "Do you collect them?", How many do you have?". Many people asked to pick it up and then were shocked that I was carrying them for the full event.
As you can see from the pictures, there were people dressed in crazy outfits, but there was a reason for that. All the tents and booths that you see all have little games or items to buy. All the people there came up with those games on there own. As people stop by each both they raise more money. The people with the craziest or most interesting booths pull in more money for the cause.
Men in tutu's wearing bra's, or women with painted on mustaches. It didn't take long before I became the "Boombox Guy" and people stopped by our booth.
I started out with medium sized radio's and went up from there, topping out with the 935 which is always a fan fav. In the middle of the night I was using the Panasonic FM45 mini which also got praise from people because they understood that I was as worn out as them...but "I was still carrying a boombox!"
At one point a team member did a few laps carrying a radio along with me.
By morning people were just in shock that I was still out there and still carrying a radio.
We wrapped up with the closing ceremony at 9am with one last lap around the track.
On the last lap a man from a neighboring booth came up and told me that he has a storage locker that may contain some vintage radios. He asked to change numbers and said he would give me what ever he finds!!! Wish me luck.
NEXT YEAR....Bigger and Better! My J1 is getting repaired as we speak and YES, it will be out there with me....and if I can some how procure a Wheely, I will walk with that too.
