DAMN, THAT'S INCREDIBLE WORK!!! 
Not that it really needs it, but any thoughts on repainting the front case a matte black to get rid of that discoloration at the bottom left corner?

I currently use Turtle Wax Premium Grade Chrome & Metal Polish for my boxes... uh... chrome and metal parts. 
I could use something else for the plastic tho.

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 
proof of my earlier post -
-is at the end of the luck ....... is the WORK and the TIME and the CARING and the TALENT --
and to admit a guilty streak.......during the last 3 hours --while part of this incredible effort was
happening --i was on the BEACH !!!! --tossing a football --rapping to hotties--
improving my tan ..
and jamming to my little AIKO box -
ie --accomplishing NOTHING !!!!

as for the "shipwreck" condition --
:'-( yes - it was a shameful looking POS -
since it came from another local florida dude -
he must have dragged it thru the sand and salt water as his everyday beach beater--
in fact --it was so nasty --
that i had figured it would , at most, become a 'donor' parts box --
in case a nice one came along --
but now --its like the absolute GEM of GEMS !!!!

not sure how i can ever make this one up to frank -
this is MEGA-HUGE and even much bigger than that !!!!
but --bet i can find a way

as for the sound performance --(vs an m90)
i do have a viable theory

because this deed IS ... the absolute BOMB --

Let me begin by saying how much of an honour it is to be trusted to such a rare bird. I love this box , it has all the elements that make up what a classic boombox is all about.
I heard about novus platic product from Cali9dub from s2g I use it on all my boxes to get the clear plastic parts looking good again. On the body I use mild dishwashing liquid to clean it first followed by meguires cleaner wax to get the chrome bits looking shiny again. On the real aluminum trim on the top I used a fine wet sanding to get all the scratches out.
The body does have two spots where it is a little discolored but I think painting it will take away from it's originality.
The color is a dark gunmetal grey with a light metal flake. If anyone can put me in a direction for instruction on molding plastic parts I'm all ears as that will be my last challenge with this box.
Ira I told Ramon who helped me with the info on the secret screws that held this bad boy together that we will have to have a mini meet when it's done.

Fast work there! Given the high profile nature of this boombox, it must've been given TOP priority Looks great.
I've bought the Novus product from Tap Plastics at their stores and concur that they are great products for any boombox repair project. They are also available online at tapplastics.com. It works just like the automotive grade polish but is a softer compound so it is not as aggressive which is important, especially on the fake or thin chrome where it can disappear lickety split! Also works great on the plastic body or paint too. Funny thing is: On the acrylic, I prefer the more aggressive automotive stuff because it works much faster and seems to polish to a much higher luster.

I can't help but comment on the similarity between the internal layout of this and the S90. The S90 is a bit more complicated, of course with extra boards on the right side due to the more complicated soft touch tape mechansim and associated controls and of course the music search and adres features. The speakers, on the other hand -- those tweeter pairs look like they are run in parallel through a common high-pass filter capacitor so I can't really see it being a true 3-way. Rather, looks like a 2-way, 3-speaker setup. Funny thing is those two tweeters have different part numbers so if they are different, they are both being fed the same signal.

well --for those few of you that were not at the meet
heres what happened ...
1. the demo began with a standing room only gathering --to witness the unveiling -
ALL the members were in shock and awe at the rare beauty --
and that once in a lifetime chance
to share air with such a grail
2. it was like no other box or treat even counted-
and "shy-guy" that i am --
was enjoying the 5 minutes of fame and glory
3. as the grail was turned on --
a few of the more astute members left the scene --immediately
4. as it was turned up --most of even the most kind members..... vanished 
5. left over were just 3 ::
6. betty and tara = always there for a sympathetic ear .... disappeared :'-(
7. ' last one standing' was formerly faithful ol buddy and traveling partner . ramon....
but he started begging ANYBODY else for a ride home
