Best sounding compact components systems

If possible I would like your opinion about an off-topic question. They look like boomboxes but don't run on batteries and are usualy more powerful and can be used as hifi home system. They can be found at ridiculous prices, cheaper than most collectable boomboxes! Some wrote the Yamaha YST C10 is the best compact component system of the 90's. If you know a bit about that topic I would like your recommendations, thanks.

Depends how you define a compact system. Does it need to have a handle, or can it just be a stack of mini components?

That Yamaha is weak compared to some others you can buy.

sony fh 909 is my best so far, twice the power of the legendary m90 and better sounding....but remember she isn't portable guys :-)

I have no idea. Someone on stereo2go made that suggestion. Since they can sell for very very cheap and are said to sound amazing, I will try. I don't use batteries anyway. At home, outside near garden or in garage, boomboxes are always plugged. :breakdance:

Ok well then you should be able to find RX- and FH- models pretty easily. Some of the others only come from Europe.

I LOVE those 80's Aiwa mini systems :-) I'd buy one straight away for the right price...........sheer beauty & quality :w00t:

I have both a Sharp GX-CD60 & a Sharp GX-CD75, each has an EQ feature with an X-Bass slider next to the EQ. To be honest, if used without the X-Bass feature the sound isn't anything to smile about so using the X-Bass is a must but the extra bass I was expecting to boom out of these boxes just wasn't there - what Sharp call 'X-Bass' on these boxes is little more than another EQ band at the lower end. The sound is.................OK but nothing to get exited about although I'll see if I can pad out the speaker casings for improved sound later this year.

I know the GX-CD range are different from the CD-X range so I think I'm trying to say beware of Sharp's X-Bass - it's just Bass at best on the boxes I've mentioned.

I have a Sony FH-313 which is actually portable (has a handle). Its not components, but not a boom box either IMO. With the SAT (super acoustic turbo) it really goes hard too ! And I got it for $2 :-)
