Well, like the title says, it has been some time since my last post.
Life takes over and a few things get put on the back burner. Next week my wife and I are expecting twins which has involved a considerable amount of preparation!!! New house, new car etc......
I haven't been completely out of the game though and I thought I'd make time to share my latest acquisition.

This was advertised on ebay here in Australia in November with a starting bid of $1000.
It went around twice with no bids clearly due to the fact that it wouldn't power up and the owner couldn't find time to have it repaired. It looked to be in great condition and was a radio my collection was seriously lacking.
The seller had claimed the boombox was fully functional until last week when "it just stopped working"
Anyway, relisted for the 3rd time I threw out a hopelessly lowball offer of $400 expecting to hear nothing. Nothing ventured nothing gained right? 10 minutes later I received a counter offer of $500, slightly taken aback I threw out a $450 offer which resulted in another counter for $475. Sold. I'm picking up the radio tomorrow as the guy lives a half hour away.
I know there will be collectors out there who would tell me I'm crazy to buy a radio that won't even power up, especially at $475, but I thought I'd take a punt on it........
Fast forward to today (first chance I've had to open her up).
Straight away I could tell that the problem was one wire that had become disconnected, out with the soldering iron!
After re soldering the wire this beast roared to life and is absolutely perfect on every function, I checked the belts when I had it in pieces and I could tell they had been renewed at some point as they were still nice and snug when rotating the flywheel manually!
It actually took longer for the soldering iron to heat up than it did for the repair!
Pretty happy with the gamble I took, it's not mint (maybe a 9 outta 10) but very nice indeed. Only thing it's missing is the battery cover unfortunately so if anyone knows if there is a cover from another radio that might fit please let me know (I don't think anyone will have an authentic spare)
Hope you like it!!

Dammmmmmmm! GREAT score man, you stole that thing! Congratulations on the payoff of the gamble. With OG box too! WOW. Love that vinyl collection in the background too ;-) Congratulations on your soon to be born twins as well! :-) That's the REAL score...

Looks in great condition Alfie! At least these off brand units seem to have easy issues to fix. You can't imagine a non runner Panasonic being fixed by re soldering a power wire that had fallen off!

Congrats,

James.... :-)

You're not wrong!! I wouldn't even attempt something like that on a high quality box, I'd take it to the tech 😄

I think, it's prestigious for any collector, to have such boombox in his collection.
You have boombox in excellent condition - this is a very good deal.
I wish all the best to you and your family. Congratulations. :-)

That was happening with some members' Lasonic i931s when they first came out, people were going mad, saying how they're not built anywhere near as well as the original TRC-931s, which you can understand with today's electronics and associated cost-cutting measures.
