Currently I do not sell the bbdb public:
It`s just available with pm contact over the forum .

Then you mention:BBDB seems to be kind of expensive.
I doubt that -after working more than ten years on this project.
also you can ask owners about the functions and content.you will find out .It is worth this price.

(2000€ plus a yearly ammount).It is just an enthusiastic project without profit .Within the years the money did not come in back yet through sales.The other software for the base is free, like the firebird server and the counter is from russia.
I`m developing a new database dvd currently.Believe me,my friend and me invested thousands of hours work in this project-all 12.000 units must get a proper edit entry description,aka lists must be updated,pictures must be prepaired,
(total 74.000).

I`m developing an online database,yes.
But:Copyright issues are not cleared till now.
The database pictures are nearly ALL taken with the
photographers allowness espeacially for the database.
Authorities can shut down your website immideately while
using pictures from "the wild" and/or the picture owner is performing complaints
against a website`s private owner rsp. a website`s company ownership.That`s the biggest
problem.Would you take the responsibility for the entire picture content ?I.E. --you are allowed to
collect pictures and to put them online on a permanent website only with propper copyrights.When I tried to
collect pictures for the database 6 years ago - I got maximum 100.In had to research myself in libraries,to find old ads,
price lists,owner manuals,catalogs,newspapers,factory sheets, company brochures,asf. I asked at least more than 4000 auctioners for their allowance to use the pictures for the database.I also asked the the managers for public communication from sony, sharp ,grundig, jvc,a.s.f.,and got the allowance to publish their original pictures online.Allways with the condition:no negative statements about their products.
I know that copyright complaints about internet content are appearing more in Europe than in US ,neverthless this is the basic conflict :
The Eu and Us Governement do NOT have contracts about this theme yet.
YES WOW.
So one possibility could be :using an US domain ,which is less controlled and less bothered by controlls than EU sites.

there is no reason why people cant post pictures with information about there boomboxes here.
now without a doubt you have put a lot of work into your data base and it is massive in terms of its content.
there is no doubt about that. however some people just wont pay that much money for it.
as for scooping pictures from the wild. i would never even consider using any photo that is not mine. so yeah i dislike picture stealing too.
now your database is amazing no doubt about that. just from what i have seen you post here and there you have a massive collection of things.
but for the casual collector or person who just wants some information about a few of the many thousands of boomboxes i think having reviews of the most popular ones here is a good idea.
i also think if someone is going to write a review and post information about these boomboxes that they actually own.
remember jens for you the value of the bbdb is clearly apparent it is your labour of love and you have worked very hard on it. there is no doubt about that,however to many casual collectors its a dvd thats going to cost them a hundred dollars.
some people willl think its worth it some will not.

i think having a online database at the depth of the database you are selling would be pretty big task. i mean there is just so many units.
i think if you do a online database it should maybe use just the top one hundred boomboxes.
based maybe on popularity and performance. not a easy task to figure out.
then if people wanted more information on other models you could sell them your database.
while i do respect your project and the amount of work put into it. to spend the money buying your disc is not worth it for me, i mean i am just not that into boomboxes i need to see and learn about every single model. i think its cool what you have done,but its just not something for me that needs to be examined by myself that closely. for some it might and that is fine.

to me -- its worth a $$$ fortune
i love looking up ANY of the many HUNDREDS of brands --
- they are all almost completely covered in the bbdb --

just hitting some random brand is alot of fun -
and an education --

as a very practical matter --
any collector who is a craigslist customer -- NEEDS the bbdb --

Jens, you have created a database on the level I seriously doubt we would ever casually put together on this or any other forum. Your creation is well worth it to a true collector all though many will no doubt have trouble handing over $100 for a DVD as bill has stated. It's obvious you've spent much time in the details and it shows, I really don't think you have anything to worry about at this point.

People really just ****ing amaze me. And I only speak for myself. People pay crazy dollars for bbx's and collections and bitch that a completely compiled, searchable database is "too expensive". Give me a ****ing break, I'm just saying as a paying customer of 2 revisions of the database, it is well worth the tiny price being asked for it. I do understand the NON collectors will not put up that kind of money, but MOST of us here are NOT casual collectors by any means. I am not here just to plug Jen's database, I'm saying it as an unbiased user. If it was a turd, you bet I'd be saying that right out of the gate.

I understand both sides of the equation here, but come on, I guess people are finicky like that. To each there own I guess.

I would have bought it Kitt if it was not for two issues :

First, it doesn't work on mac . .

Second, I know all the models I like or seek etc, so all the other stuff is not much excitement to me . .

Perfectly valid reasoning, and I don't begrudge anyone or any decisions they make, I just can't stand to listen to people who whine about the cost of something but in the next breathe spend crazy $$ on something "just to have" or the poor man excuse when they have 75+ bbx's already.....

Just want to reiterate that my first post was only my opinion and subject to ridicule by those who see fit to call me out on it....... .........

the thing is for me the bbdb is five boomboxes. i mean i am super cheap and i am not ashamed to admit it. hell i am bloody proud of the fact. now i also collect synthesizers i did go out and spend forty dollars on a book about them with lots of cool pictures and tons of information about them inside.
that being said if someone came out with a dvd of the information i most likely would not buy it even if it was only forty dollars. i mean its not that i dont respect the work put into it or that i would not enjoy looking at it.
its all personal taste. i dont however think it is ok by any means to take a dvd like that and throw it up on limewire for all the world to have at it. that is just theft plain and simple.
i would never spend the big money prices on boomboxes either, i mean if i saw a m90 at a thrift store for 150 200 bucks i would take it,but for me it would have to be pristine not a project box.
i am not saying buying a m90 for a grand is right or wrong, its all about how much something is worth to you and how much time you have to put in to find stuff.
i think that having the passion to attempt to document every portable radio cassette ever made is a extremely dedicated task indeed.
for me tho i like coming across old boomboxes in the wild and if they are nice enough to cart home and cheap enough i pick them up.
its like any hobby its up to the individual to decide what is worth what to them.

also its a mute point for me.

with you Kitt, this it pennies compared to the crazy money we spend on boxes. I just intended to say the different perspective of paying for a boombox or a DVD makes it harder for people to pay for the DVD. I think it's worth it but others don't, we all have our opinions about it. :judge:

I like Spyderco the best, although I have quite a few other brands (over 200 knives total), I also like My Kershaw with the assisted opening and the rainbow coating. I tend to buy unique but mostly brand name knives.
