It's completely normal for us to feel the way we do. When you mark an item up 100% or 200% over what you paid, you:
1: never wanted the product. You wanted the profit.
2: prevented a collector who wanted one from being able to get one.
3: are preying on collectors and, in some cases, insulting them by asking way over retail.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing illegal about this. It's just considered by some to be morally and ethically wrong. But since when did that ever keep someone from trying to make money? And why should they care what anyone else's opinion is? Particularly if this type of behavior has been a rewarding process for them. I see both sides however, I am on the side of not appreciating it. Especially if you are intentionally creating a shortage that prevents someone who truly wanted one from being able to get one at the regular price. This is nothing new. It's the reason some have a purchase limit on items. Especially in retail.
People do this with everything around here. For example: Every 2 years I like to replace my outdoor Christmas lights before they start becoming problematic. Especially the ones that go on the house. Right after the the Holidays, I go to Wal-Mart to take advantage of the discounts for the next year. Last year, I ran into a lady that was in the aisle I was in. I was on my phone talking to my wife to make sure I was looking at the right type of lights. This lady was on the other end looking at something else mind you. When she heard my conversation and noticed I was interested in that particular light set, she flew over there and started shovelling 4 boxes at a time in her cart. I only needed two but her intention was to take all they had left. Since she was reaching over in front of me I flew in there when she was tossing one of her loads in the cart and snatched the two I NEEDED for next year before she took them all. I knew exactly what she was doing. She was going to save them for next year and then sell them online for a profit when the prices were higher.
I just shrug my shoulders at this type of behavior and move on because, to each their own. In this case, if someone wants to pay $2,400 for a founders edition with $130 shipping, more power to them. Furthermore, they are encouraging this.
Personally, I do not reward this type of behavior with my hard earned money. Just like I am not rewarding car manufacturers by buying their overpriced junk that you can't even work on, doesn't hold up and, for 2027, uses AI to determine whether it will ALLOW you to drive the vehicle you....???OWN???...but I digress.
The time has come to start showing others the "power of the purse" as the saying goes. Vote with your wallet. It matters more than you think.
