Yep. That's why I've got 5 hard disks in my main PC and a USB external 500 GB. I see tooooo many failed HD's in my job every day and know the risk is of catastrophic failure is an ever present threat. Especially if you have a Western Digital 'Blue' series drive in your PC it seems :hmmm:

This was a WD Caviar drive....not sure if it's blue series.....

Had to freeze it in the fridge overnight to get 5 minutes access!!

Had my house broken into last month
they stole my laptop AND my backup hard drive.

I lost 3000 of my last 3 months photographs - which I am never getting back. - I had a friends wedding shots, live gig work etc
Forget the other 5 laptops, 2 ipods, ps3, Wii and other do dahs I had stolen

Please everyone use CLOUD based back up - like CARBONITE

Having all your disks in the same place is NO good!!!

Well received advice thanks!

Luckily I have an external 500 GB but I'm going to also do some on disc.

anything wrong with using a bunch of thumb drives ??

Ira, that should be fine for your 1.2 megapixel image collection. :-P

And with thumbdrives there are no moving parts to worry about. :-D

I Am Legend
at the lowest resolution setting --my floppies hold 25 pictures -
then the thumb drives seen to hold about 30 floppies :-) :-)
