Helping out with the "modeling" duties this time around, a re-imagined (and sexier) version of the enigmatic Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Another home run MONO! The Eva series really brings back memories. It seems like so long ago.I really liked the characters and the uniforms in that one. Rei, Asuka, and Dr.Akagi were distinctly memorable and well thought out. The plot was very disturbing but that's a whole other issue.

Some time ago when I did my similar photoshoots,I actually removed the mounting base of my figure models.Funny I can't remember how I did this keeping the figures upright but I did.

ghetto boom-The figures Mono is using are not dolls actually.Dolls usually have rooted hair and clothing (many times interchangeable).Sometimes they can articulate. Dolls are meant for interaction with by young children to mimic real life situations. Of course there is a collector market for these aimed at women who have retained a fascination for them since childhood.

Figure models can best be understood as an extension of sculpture. In the early days of Japanese figure models, most of these were available as either unassembled resin kits or cold cast prepainted coldcast porcelain castings. They are meant for static display purposes only.As a parallel consider this. While a child plays with toy airplanes, teenagers and adults will put together airplane models meant for static display. They have no desire to play with these.

In recent years the expensive resin anime kits and mega-expensive coldcast porcelain sculptures have been joined by less expensive completed versions usually made of PVC.These are meant for people without building skills or a deep wallets. The people buying these love the artistic value of the drawings and are fascinated by a very faithful 3 dimensional representation of the characters in these anime and manga.

I think the sort of champagne tinting effect really set the box off.Nice job MONO!

Actually, that IS the color of the box. ;-) If you would've seen the pictures I originally planned on using...

:hmmm: Then again, you may have a very valid point... The color temperature (something I just found out in the past 12 hours) of the light bulbs I'm using give almost anything I shoot a picture of a yellowish tint... I'll be buying some color corrected bulbs soon.

BTW, BIG THANKS for the dolls vs. statues comparison  ... You've explained it far better than I ever hoped to.

why doesn't it sound good?

not bad , at all -- and very loud--
- just not 1/2 as good as it looks.
i am a big aiwa fan ---and have bought/sold/kept lots or their models-

but that one was the only disappointment.
