Well no sooner had i fixed the dodgy idler tyre my eldest stepdaughter had just finished watching step up 3 and exclaimed "oh my god I need a Boombox"
ha you can guess where the trk ended up :-/

then the youngest stepdaughter said I need one of them too...... so i managed to get a noname egg off the bay for her still waiting for it to arrive....
Then My son 5 years old said "DAD wheres my one" so he got an old whsmith shoebox style cassette recorder, and he is over the moon with it

So yes im still working box less so i ordered this loveley specimen from the bay CHEAP....

and what a piece of junk it is i think i will just be cleaning it up and using it as a display box all the cassette mechanism is corroded and there are detached wires floating inside :annoyed:
that just leaves my childhood box which is in a terrible condition my silver stw55l I hope to restore it oneday if i can ever find the bits. i will get some pictures of it up as soon as i can get to the back of the shed where it is kept.

so still looking for a cheap box of my own to get my collection well and truly started i just hope the missus dosent want one when i do find it lol

kindest regards

Most of us started with such boxes.
the HITACHI looks classic
the UNISEF has a nice batterycontrol in the tuning window.
Hope you can fix both and get more.

Thank you for the comments Vienna, I may have to take some lessons from you in finding more boxes you really seem to have the skill  .

And now guys here is My favourite box it was bought brand new by my brother and my gran bought it from him as a christmas present for me when i was about 10 as you can see it has lead a hard life but one day i hope to find the bits to bring it back to its former glory the original speakers were swapped out long ago after many years of childhood abuse playing it with loads of distortion  it needs a new cassette door as well as battery cover and the tape decks no longer function, however I could NEVER part with this one

That is very cool, I did not know anyone made a TV box that small, they are usually pretty big

the SILVER looks smaller as it is!
There are a few smaller units, like the TVC. :-)

It sounds really nice on the radio, But I have to wait to get a good tape to test the deck with,as im not sure if it is my old recording, poor battery or a slippy belt making the cassette sound awful

But all in all I am really pleased with my new additions :-D

It was the cheap poundshop batteries that were at fault although brand new they were not powerful enough to drive the tape at the required speed.

The walkman now :breakdance:

as for the minisette 20 I tried it with an old answerphone tape but i think the tape has degraded over the years so am waiting for a new tape to try it with.

Kind regrards

On the off chance you don't know.. that is an erasure plug. You stick it in the microphone jack if you want to record over a tape but just to erase what's on it.

I had that small Aiwa when it was new but took it back and exchanged it for a Panasonic of more conventional size as there's a potentially dangerous design fault in the power supply on the Aiwa, which was recalled a few weeks after I bought one. What happens is that plugging in the DC wallwart doesn't cut the internal battery, fine if you use rechargeables as the wart provides sufficient current to charge [the battery] but if you run one on single use cells, then the DC will pretty soon cause them to overheat and potentially to split and leak. With hindsight, I should have kept the Aiwa and fitted the variable rate (rough DC right through to 80Hz) AC supply from my otherwise dead Fidelity "Battery Saver" radio/cassette, which was a crude sounding heap of shite but was able to charge single use batteries safely - its USP when new - if not especially effectively as typical alkalines would only stand about one full recharge and then wouldn't last as long as they did from the packet.

PS: I've owned three ADO 14s and Dad ran 8 of them as company cars from his first (cable changer) in 1969 on a G to a MK2 HLS on a 1980 W. I still have a full set of suspension displacers - modified with Schrader valves so that their nitrogen as well as their hydro fluid can be topped up - obviously for a post-'75, Hydragas model. Any use to you, Martin? :-)
