This is just an idea:

If we teamed up with stereos to go, and agreed to have an entire month where every member agrees to not buy boomboxes on ebay, then we could see how much we influence our own prices. We would also be saving some $ up for the Chrismas season.

It is just a concept at this point. Please do not run out and not buy a boombox based on this thread. :)

Thoughts welcome.

If we have power to influence the boombox market, then in my opinion, as a group of avid boombox collectors, we should exercise that power more wisely, not simply to lower the prices of potential acquisitions but rather to reach out to the unlearned masses and explain that the goal of boombox enthusiasts is to acquire and refurbish vintage boomboxes so that these items may be passed down to and enjoyed by future generations and not be lost for all time. Who knows? Maybe people with vintage boomboxes sitting around in their attics would freely donate their boxes to such a cause. I would rather trust in people's good will than participate in an attempt to bully the free market. By the way, don’t members of these forums also sell boomboxes? How would a month abstinence designed to lower boombox prices affect them? I'm agin it.

Ha ha I'm selling a few at the moment so this would scupper my plans to pay for my holiday. I'm actually on a buying ban until Christmas anyway but as said above if a good box was going real cheap because no one was buying then to be honest there's no way I could resist it!

I like the concept behind this tho...just think in reality it wouldn't work.

Thanks to my income vs. the cost of living around here, most months are "No Boombox Buying Months" for me.

Oh no! I only wish I hadn't seen this sooner because, only this very morning, I went out not to buy a boombox and didn't.
My apologies for not buying the box without waiting for the forum's official sanction on this.

I think this a great idea! I'll even volunteer to be the only member to watch Ebay to ensure none of our members are buying!

Yeah right, this just sounds like a plan for your own personal benefit.... Get all the members not to buy, so you get them all for cheap!!!! Get him!!! :grim: :freddy: :scream:

This won't work for the same reason that fuel boycotts won't work......The demand just builds up during the boycott, and then after the boycott is over, the pent-up demand causes an above-average # of people to buy, causing prices to increase.

Pent-up demand is bad. Not to mention messy.
