this water heater is in a mobile home so the cold water inlet is towards the bottom, I was going to drain it but the hose bib at the bottom is so close to the floor I would have to build an adapter in order to hook a hose up to it, which I may do just didn't have time last night. This WH is a dual element, I saw on lowes.com they have 3 specifically for mobile homes, but they are single element, I wonder if the new single element one's work better now than my older 2 element WH?

A few years ago I had a water heater rust out in my old M.H. and I went to Menards and got a 30 gallon single element water heater and it worked awesome!

I'd say it's doubtful that a single element heater would work better than a dual element unit but if that's all they got, then that's all they got. Anyhow, any new heater is going to work better than a 14 year old one.

There no question that manufacturing a dual element design is more costly than a single element design so it wouldn't be done unless there was some benefit to it. Still, it may be all you need.

Water heaters should come with a anode rod to attract the trash, see below:

new vs. old

When it goes bad it loses it's effectiveness, thus allowing mineral (and other sediment) to attach itself to the heating elememt which it will draw to be it gas or electric. You can extend the life of your water heater by keeping the anode rod fresh about once a year (and it's pretty cheap) depending on your usage.

Easy Peasy...Unless your screwed already. Flush the tank, change the anode rod and see what happens. You may save a lot of dough... :-D

drained the WH got some calcium (??) out of it, filled it up again and drained it and got a lot more, removed both elements top one was kind of corroded/dirty, buttom one was pretty clean. Testd them with ohm meter and found out bottom one was not working. Bought 2 new ones and replaced them, $17 total, lot cheaper then a new WH thanks for the tips. Have to see if it is working when I take a shower in a few minutes.
