Recently I caught a clone of Sanyo’s famous M7900 / MR-V8. It was made in Korea and except the different speaker grills it looks quite the same as the original M7900.
It just needed some simple cleaning as it still works without problems; both tape and tuner. Probably it already got a new belt.
It says MADE in Korea, not assembled, which is interesting because Sanyo has always been a Japanese company. Even today, Sanyo is owned by Panasonic which is as we all know, likewise pure Japanese.
One thing that was never resolved on that thread was whether or not these were clones or aka's. The difference being that clones are copies whereas aka's may actually be Sanyo parts, boards... essentially actual sanyo guts under a different branding and cosmetic variations. No one, it seems has taken one apart and shared their findings.
