Hi Guys,
Well after messing around in the past with 2 faulty Panasonic RX-DT680s, I've finally scored a cheap minty, fully working RX-DT680 with remote. This unit has ultra low usage written all over it. It was owned by an elderly asian couple who obviously never played a tape in the thing as the pinch rollers don't have a mark on them!

I pulled the speakers down and gave the front grill panels a bath and cleaned the speakers.
Work required to restore full function:
1. The 'as new' antenna needed the screw tightened.
2. The tape heads needed a clean (dusty).
3. The 8 speaker wires needed cutting, re-stripping and a touch of new solder.
That's it!

Man, this thing really pounds.
It's got much better highs than my other two RX-DT680s. Very strong bass too with virtually no distortion at max bass all the way to maximum volume! The control buttons also have no play in them due to very light usage over the years. The remote control works well and the volume pot motor is nice and quiet.
The CD player works fine and picks up the first track much faster than my other unit. The tuner doesn't have the 'hiss' on FM stereo like my other units too.
The decks are very nice sounding units. I've got a crappy Jimmy Barnes tape from the 80s that's full of drop-outs etc and this Panny makes it almost sound like a new tape!
Man, bass for buck, it's hard to beat these RX-DT680s!!
I'll be all set once I give the Panny an RCA Line In mod upgrade like I did on my old RX-DT680.

My basic camera couldn't really handle the bass even at moderate volume levels but you'll get the idea:
(The hissing noise at 3:05 is actually our washing machine filling with water downstairs!)

You guys keep saying it and it's very true, "Wait and the deals will come" - even on Ebay.
Have a great week guys & gals and happy hunting,
James....
