Hi Guys,

Well I just got finished reading that terrible story "Why Oh Why" regarding a members' Sanyo C15!

Well, today I received an Hitachi TRK-3D8W from an Ebay seller in Perth - Aussies will know the seller as 80% of the boomboxes listed at the moment on Ebay Australia are his!!

I took one look at the box sitting in my front yard and knew I was in trouble as the shipping box was the exact same size and shape as the Hitachi!!
It was wrapped in one single layer of small size bubble wrap and one thin 2mm layer of foam inside a light weight, thin cardboard box.
Well, as you would expect, the Hitachi's got cracks, heavily dented grills, suspected loose transformer, damaged left tape deck door (these were both open inside the box) plus other various cosmetic faults (recent)

When will these Ebay sellers learn?????????

The seller has offered a full refund but it's going to cost me $45 to ship the thing 4000kms back to him!!

I've made a part refund offer so I'll see how I go with that one. :hmmm:

I'm starting to think Ebay is an easy way to buy boxes but most are either shipped well and crap or not shipped well and are crap and broken!!

That's a crapper...woulda been a nice 3D that one too, I like the proper square ones. It's only partly about the money too...when there are only limited numbers of boxes still in exsistence it's such as shame to lose them to stupid packing

Yeah I got the Tosh RT-S931 and it was packed just as badly, but luckily it's a solid box and survived the trip. The dude had taken some creative photos for his listing that failed to show where someone had carved some number and then someone attempted to hack/dig it off.

Damn, I hate reading these threads :annoyed:

I just don't understand how people can think vintage plastic will survive being shipped like this.

Sorry for your loss :-/

I Am Legend
in cases like this --where the seller is 100% absolutely at fault -- :dunce: :dunce:
none of us should ever be aditionally burdened with $45 return shipping :nonono:

the disappointment -- the trashed collectable --the repacking - the trip to the P.O. -- the long wait for the $$ refund =
is far more than enough punishment for us to absorb ....
whenever a cheap // stupid seller fks up so badly :annoyed: :annoyed:

I hate to say it, but if an experienced seller is still packing like a novice to save 5-10 bucks, they'll continue to do it as long as they can get away with it. It's such a gamble.
On the other hand, an experienced seller who packs like a pro sees little reward for their effort.
I really wish eBay would let buyers and sellers leave more detailed feedback in order to educate each other.
Problem is, it's just not good for the bottom line, as far as eBay is concerned.
Sorry for the diatribe and I'm sorry for your busted box.
I hope some good comes from this.
Hang in there. (I think I'm gonna find some uplifting posts to read :-) )

I've sent some more pictures to my seller, negotiating a full refund plus I keep the C15  Hope it all works out for you

It's very disturbing to see such a terrible packing job.

Judging by the amount of radios this bloke is listing he must be a collector, he's listed about 40 odd radios over the past 3 or 4 weeks. He appears to be selling off his less appealing/non working radios. If he starts listing some high quality radios i hope he packs them with a bit more thought or there may be some good radios going to radio heaven :nonono:

Quick update: The seller agreed to part refund me $50 so all is well. I pulled the Hitachi down last night and pull out most of the dents from the grills and repaired the crack in the rear case and fixed the transformer. Apart from needing belts, it's fully operational now and whilst not HiFi sound, it's got plenty of BOOM!!!!
