Thanks for all your answers. I want to use it on my balcony - listening to all my old tapes. And sometimes in my kitchen.

So I'll wait and hopefully find an american version with proper line-in. Good thing is: My brother lives in America, so he can send it over as a gift. Might work...

And if someone here wants to sell his M70... please send a message to me, because I have no access to the sales forum.

One more question:

If I buy a M70 in America, will I have to pay taxes / custom duties? Anyone knows where I can find some info?

For german readers: I asked the Zoll (my scenario was: My brother who lives in the US sends me his used ghetto blaster with collectors value of 300$ as a gift) and this is their answer:

Yes, the German/European version only has Phono-in and a DIN input but I don't know if the DIN input works like the cinch line input of the American version.

To me it seems like it does not. I bought a cable from DIN to my MP3 player, and I don't get sound. So there are two options: This device does not work or it generally does not work.

The device says "REC / PB" - maybe it works only with tape? Somebody has an answer?

You need a "Phono input attenuator" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50-7240-PHONO ... 2a204a74fa  I have one, works like a charm

As I wrote in an earlier post, I'm looking for a JVC M70. Couldn't find any on ebay, so I was wondering what could be an alternative Ghettoblaster. I want a classic boombox with a great sound. But so many look great - and I have no idea how good the sound is.

Hints appreciated.

Hey woobwoob, I read your previous post and I think we are almost in the same case !
- We don't have a gehttoblaster and we want a JVC RC M70 or an alternative.
- You live in Hamburg, I'm in Lille (France).

Maybe we are looking from the same bids !
Maybe we can tell us know about our research, don't you think ?

I'm sure your are looking for this one.

After my M70 living in another country for almost a year before I could claim it once I listened to it I could appreciate all the fuss!
Wait for the M70 or get a 9696 (I like Sharps).

These Philips are pretty decent! Almost as good as the Crown 850 but certainly no match for the M70. And lately they seem to sell way too high.

I've heard a fair few boxes now and once you hear an M70 you will appreciate why they're sought after. Only took me a few months to get one and I'm so glad I did. If I was only allowed one box I'd keep my M70. Luckily I'm allowed lots!!

Ive got 1. actually 2...one is a total junker. But, I never listen to it. No matter how hard I try I just HATE slider volume controls. especially finicky ones. Thats probably why I gravitate to the Sanyo 9994 as I love the large volume KNOB. Yeah, so it doesn't sound quite as loud/bassy, whatever it makes up for it by having a very lovely volume control.

But hey, the M70 is a heavy hitter no doubt and with the strap capabilities.
