A question about monoboxes...

Watching this video about a Sharp GF-1740 by a fellow member of the Worldwide Ghetto Massive...

....and I couldn't help noting something odd (at least to me).

The speaker is on the left side. All of the monoboxes I've ever owned - excepting an Emerson CD-AM/FM picnic player - have had the speaker on the right...

A cursory check of PocketCalculator's boombox site...

and only 'right-handed' boomboxes stood out - never saw a 'lefty'. Being a southpaw myself, it'd be interesting to see a visual census of the monobox community.

It's simple. The wheel (and all the mecha) for the radio is always on the right hand side.
So, the only side for the cassette department is on the left side :-)

Note that the GF-1740 also has its tuning wheel to the right... and that it loads its cassette's 'feet first' - something you don't see so often in a mono-box either.

Yes, I seen it on the previous pic...it's weird and rare....nevertheless the tuner wheel its still on the right side but on top and the radio scale is skewed due to lack of space... :hmmm:

What I don't get is why that's the left side of a boombox when we're looking at it from in front, but if we were stood in front of a car, the headlamps on our left side would be the right ones? :w00t:

I have the same puzzle when it comes to Left and Right Speakers. Left Speaker is actually on the right hand side of a boombox! :hmmm:

Saw this Yorx earlier and remembered this thread.
It manages to keep the tuning wheel in a normal spot despite the cassette player being next to it.

It's funny Emerson made 2 mono units with same model number but each had speaker/cassette deck opposite each other. I own the b model and had one in da 80's.
