I got this great super rare Japanese only Hitachi Perdisco TRK8280 from Kraftmatic on a trade recently.
It is a real beauty and is fully working after I fixed the deck "except for the music search".
She is a real nice sounding unit and in excellent condition.
Thanks Owen!

Really reminds me of the 8180 but WAY nicer looking! It looks very solid in build quality too.

Yeah it does doesn't it ?
If it had a 108 mhz tuner, it would be like the M70,an almost perfect box.

Wow, it looks great all cleaned up! That gold finish on the top panel really glows.

The only differences between this and the 8180 are cosmetic, inside they are identical.

I love the way that looks. Who needs VHF above 92 anyway? OK, so some countries have very little at that end of the band but with a Linex FM microtransmitter and an external source (output of the Linex is between 87.8 and 90.4MHz), it's immaterial and wouldn't put me off buying one like that if the chance came my way.

That said, the difference between that and the similar Hitachi with coverage all the way to 104MHz is probably down to one local oscillator and some minor adjustment, so anyone with a wobbulator and a VHF sig gen could change it in around an hour, 55 minutes of which would be needed to get the case open if it's like the 8080 in that way.
