chris you can use what's called a high to low level converter . what this does is you connect the speaker wires from the radio to the unit and the other side has rca outputs ..

Oh that's cool....and cheap! The question is, can I get one that splits 2 channel into 4 channel RCA?

you can buy one that's 4 channels instead of 2, cost a few bucks more ..

I haven't pulled the stereo out yet, but I am assuming it will be 2 channel. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will be 4.

you can always use an rca '' y '' splitter at the amp to go from 2 to 4 channel input.

Yeah, I guess that is an option. I am going to pull the stereo today. Who knows, if I don't like what I see, I may just replace the stereo. I have been looking at some gear, including a stereo with a screen on it and maybe putting in a back up camera. The speaker cabinets I have made, block the side windows out the back and it would be nice to have a rear view camera....or at least that's the excuse I am giving myself.

OK, got the stereo out of the car. It is indeed a 2 channel system, with a DIN plug for an amp and speaker connections. But no RCA outs :-/

I also found the original manual with my cars owners manual paperwork.

I opened it up, cleaned the controls for volume and treble/bass, but did not do the belt. Everything inside is soldered in, so if I take it apart, she may not go back together!

Still not sure if this is going back in or not.

For the most part, I want more control over the speakers than this radio can give. Now with 6 speakers going in the car and 2 outs It's just not the real goal here.

Here are some pictures:

Well, I just put the stereo back in and did identify a problem that would have been an issue down the line and that was the center wire on the antenna cable was busted at the connector, so I re-soldered that

While the stereo was out I did a good deoxit on the controls and they are nice and clean. So a tleast I don't have a hole in the dash.

I have found a stereo I like, it's only $130, has a full color 5.3" LCD screen on it and it will work in my car. One of the issues I have is, the dash over hangs the stereo, so I can't put in a stereo with navigation because the screen typically has to come out and UP. The stereo I am looking at has an over hang that drops down, so I may go in that direction.

This way I have 4 RCA out puts to my amp, plus the stereo is powered, so I can really get some channel separation to dial each channel in.

With the speakers being right behind your head, I don't want them screaming all HIGHS in my ear. I want to be able to pull volume from the door speakers and dial in the mids and high separately.

OK, I just got the second speaker cabinet built, I now have to putty it and sand it down....

I'm still not sure if I am going to cover these in fabric or paint them.
