Hi Guys,
I've been getting a little frustrated lately with a few of my Ebay bids being cancelled by sellers before the end of the auctions!
I've missed out on two very nice units in the process.
Anyway, yesterday morning I decided to take a quick look at Gumtree.com.au to see what local sellers had to offer - normally, very litte is on offer in Brisbane but you know the story, you never know what might turn up.
Anyway, I noticed a very recent listing of a Sharp GF-9292 for local pick up....... for $25.00
I ring the mobile number listed and I get no answer.
I'm thinking it must have already picked up but I decided a few minutes later to ring back and she answered. No, she said, it hadn't been sold yet!!! She said she wasn't sure if the tape deck worked but everything else definately was operational and it was a complete unit.
I then said "I will definately take it!!" Man, my heart was pounding!!
I picked up the unit from the seller yesterday afternoon. She lives in a very upmarket part of Brisbane and the house was huge!! It turns out, her mother recently passed and the GF was part of her estate. It was her mothers indoor radio and has never been used outdoors and thus hasn't never been used on DC mode. It was pretty dusty but cosmetically it looked really nice. I did notice it had a hair line crack in the rear case and after pulling it down I found a broken screw post but that will be an easy fix. And it's fully operational!!
I will do the belts etc soon though. It's a no nonsense box too as it's never been apart so no dodgy repairs.
The antennas are original and perfect, grills are mint and the speakers are still nice and white after a clean. As per usual, the switches need a clean. I'm waiting for some Deoxit for sliders to arrive before I clean those up. The AM/FM/SW1/SW2 and FM stereo all work fine. The tuner is actually pretty sensitive on this unit.
And yes, it certainly pounds!!! It sounds very strong & loud with a perfectly even L & R sound output. This unit has obviously seen very little use over the years. The woofers sound like new. I can turn it up to 8/10 on the volume before it finally starts to distort. Even the dial light works!!
The seller even went to the trouble of having it electrically safety tested before sale!! - How good is that?!!!
I've lusted after a GF-9292 since Scotty showed me his recently acquired unit. I never thought on my very limited budget, I'd ever be able to secure a GF-9292 so it's definately a dream come true. You've got to love the look of the 9292 with all the chrome - classic!!!
I can see this unit getting a lot of outdoor use - I'm just so happy over here!!
And no, she doesn't have any other boxes for sale!!
(I did ask)!!

Just bad luck I suppose as I do have a strong 100% Ebay feedback so that shouldn't be the issue.
