Sorry guys, bit of a long one !

So, . . . unlike Robb, LOL, I haven't had a lot of time to hit the garage sales lately but a couple of weeks ago (camera was on the fritz so posting now) on a Sunday I thought what the heck as most sales are depleted by 2nd day.

Stopped by a pair of sales across the lane from each other and 1st place didn't have much left other than left over paint. I do reno's for a living and said I already had 64 gals at home and hopped across lane to other sale.

While looking thru albums, the 1st sale lady came running across lane to ask me about doing some work. Went over after getting records, looked at the job in her house, secured it and while chatting in the garage after I spotted a familiar profile in the opposite end of the garage. Asked if they would part with it and what they wanted for it and the husband said, "that old thing, . . . give me 4 bucks and it's yours" . I said OK, :-P

I found 13 albums there (all mint vinyl) for $5

So, ya never know unless you ask, which I always do usually even if not on display.

Unit works good, and deck works on all functions, OTHER than a God awful foghorn sound when I hit play. Ideas what that is?

Cheers.

Nice little score. Those snazzy album covers are a lost art nowadays.

Try cleaning the record bar to stop that howling sound.

Thanks Rory, will try that little trick. It was coated in 1/8 in of dust where I found it too.

DEAL!!!

I just passed up a $25 JVC PC-210, GE 3-5286A , and a 1/2 dozen eggs while going to garage sales last weekend.
Looks like a sweet mid size unit. Too many boxes/projects? Eggs, now that I don't come across, damn!

Was surprised by the sound while I cleaned it up ! Should we calculate shipping to you? ;-)

the 656 is a nice looking carry box --for 4 bucks or 40 bucks
Sure is in its' unconventional way!

Actually had a home gear customer's girlfriend eyeing it up for about 10 mins the other day and liked it better than my M70 it was sitting beside.

Oh, and I am 'building' the price into the reno job too !

I've got a rather clean and fully working 656 here - just such a well built box. The thing is, I just can't get used to the lack of bass this thing produces. I've heard another one a while back and it was the same - very clear mids and highs but no rumble in the jungle.

James... :-)

Thanks for the heads up, as I haven't really leaned on it yet. Still need to clean controls and such.

I never really expect huge bass out of any of these, but it is nice to at least be reasonably balanced in presentation.

I was very happy however with, as you say, the mids and highs, as my go to sounding song is Amanda Marshall's 'Let It Rain' for the female vocals and acoustic guitar and was quite pleased with it so far from that perspective.

It's a much nicer model to adjust the volume, bass and treble pots than an M70 with sliders. It still has that cheap feeling function selector switch though.

Probably my favourite waffle grill box looks wise.

$4 is just such a great deal!

Congrats by the way,

James... :-)

Holy Moly

A SINGLE DIGIT JVC :jawdrop:
I am fast learning that even the entry level JVC's have sound and build quality worth reaching out for!

And for the price of a beer no less

Maybe at the Beer Store ! Sodies up here are $6+ at the bar, ugh, . . . oh yeah, that's about $4 'merican :-P

Glad to get it cheap, but almost feel a tad guilty after reading NZ's 'big boy' story.

Nah, I'll just do A1 work on their place! That and I could tell the guy wouldn't take more after I said 'are you sure?'

Cheers guys!

A $4 JVC and some vinyl? Who could ask for anything more :-) Great bargain, CONGRATS!
Merci Slo,

Well the Vinyl 'was' another $5, but the nicest I have seen outside of new! Was kinda giddy on those actually as they were almost fricken luminescent. Played on a Merrill apparently. 'Twas a nicer neighbourhood than mine for sure, :w00t: .
