I met up with a couple ladies at 10 this morning to do a local deal on a Sharp VZ-2000, (I ended up being 15 minutes late) :-/
Anyways, test it out (by use of the DC outlet in her Jeep) Cassette works, radio works, arms move but record doesn't spin..
Cut a deal and she says they will get a hold of me if they find anymore boxes.. (The VZ came from a town 40 minutes away that I often check the thrifts, but they got it from an Antique store I've never been to)
Driving down the road with the SHarp in my back seat, I stop into Goodwill to pick up a cassette tape or two and spot a Zenith box on the front counter.. $8.00 says the tag, and I ask to plug it in.. Separate knobs for VOL, TREBLE,BASS,BALANCE.. Needle is there, but I had to manually spin the platter to get it free and start it spinning.. It plays records, but only a faint sound is coming from the left speaker.. I will completely disassemble it and check everything out!

Cruising home on "Cloud 9" in my Impala, I happen to drive past the 3-Record Memorial for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and Bigg Bopper.. (Their plane crashed in my home town) Figured what better way to celebrate my Record player boombox purchases than next to some giant records! :dj:
Enjoy the pics! :-D

Oh my. As Cube said "I gotta say it was a good day"

And you live in the Midwest? Damn, gives me hope there might be something good to find in the Twin Cities. Just have had 0 luck thus far at any thift, goodwills, estate sales around town.

Have you replaced belts on the 2000 before? I've done 3 belt repairs and other misc items on them in the past few months if you have any questions bout it. And of course there's the extremely detained VZ2000 tear down PDF on here that is very nice if ya need it.

May I ask how much you got the VZ? If it's from an antique store vs Goodwill it might've been priced at something to make me not as jealous, but stile jealous non the less I'm sure.

Lucky guy!

Good luck!

Time to order the main belt for the VZ and clean up the sticky rubber mess from the old belt. Since it is all melted, IPA (isopropyl alcohol) should remove it.

They actually had the VZ listed in Minneapolis craigslist... Probably thought it would attract more buyers that way instead of listing it in my neck of the woods C-list..

They picked it up at an Antique store in Albert Lea, Minnesota.. I visit the thrifts in that town every month, but never saw an antique store.. I'm guessing they picked it up for less than $50, than checked the "Epay market" for pricing..
I gave them half of their asking price which I thought was decent since I didn't have to shell out an extra $75-100 for shipping costs..
I am going to order that belt asap and will hit you up when I start the R & R! :-)

Yeah I seen that one, I swear its the same one that was on Cali Craigslist for $50 a couple months ago because of the jacked up cassette door... :hmmm:

I might have to get one of those labels from you, that way it would cover up the 2 scratches on the turntable door! :-D

Ha! I actually figured you already seen it and was going to make the 2 hr drive down here and get it before me, I know you have a couple already...
I'm actually kind of bummed I didn't score it at the antique store before the lady I bought it from did.. I def would've paid less!
I guess I don't even know where that store is in Albert Lea,MN anyways... :-/
That recent M90 on Epay was from Wisconsin, so I guess there are still boxes to be found in the wild if ya look hard enough!

Yeah, I'm trying to find them truly in the wild before anyone gets them on ebay, or asks a real price for it on Craigslist. I don't care if it's just a decent beat up mid size box, just wanna find something for $25 at a Goodwill or Estate sale or something. Or like Blu who is getting that bad ass Bolt Box today FOR FREE! Just once I ask, once!

On my way to FedEx uptown where I know they have one waiting for me. (bought last week and had them hold while I was up north over the weekend). Maybe hit a few Goodwills/Savers and the like on my trek.

Nice VZ score man  .

M40 buddy, you too will be rewarded (hopefully in your life time) with one or even a pile of boomboxes in the wild  . Hang in there.

I was certain to have missed the free bolt box because the ad was 2 days old already, but got lucky no one showed up for the items.

I'm root'n for you. It will happen.

Ironically the only one I own that was from the wild was my first, the Lasonic 931 my now wife found just 15 minutes away in North Minneapolis and was a gift for xmas a few years back. Darn near mint but of course had a sloppy function dial as 90% of them do now. So I blame my addiction on her now. She knew I wanted to get a big old vintage box, but I just hadn't got around to it. So 50+ boxes and $???? later I like to blame it on her. Ha. But at least I know she even digs on some of them, even she couldn't deny how bada** a vertical 2 sided turntable, or ridiculously loud car alarm, a disco light show, or a 10 inch woofer was on a boombox.
