12v Bluetooth to D8443 ?

Hey gang! I found some time for fun. I rediscovered this 12v bt dongle in a toolbox,and am ready to use it.
I saw a thread about adding it to JVCs,and am wundering if anyone completed this model.

I have some time,but not alot.
Seems simple,but the RCA jacks on this model suck. Maybe override a SW radio?

You guys are all friggin' geniuses,so I like to ask before I start wrecking stuff myself. Haha
It's a beater box,but still a sentimental model. If it works I'll move it to my daily work D8443.

You can switch out the radio (tuner) but not a band. That's because the band switch does not operate like a function selector, rather it changes the circuitry in the tuner to change the way it receives. There's already a lot of different posts about adding a line-in to boomboxes so just search the archives, or even bluetooth add topics.

I feel like I've read through the BT threads and still have questions.

I'm not an electrician,but am pretty handy.

The backs of the RCA jacks are different than others. I can't see the paths to follow.
And my laptop with the manual I downloaded years ago is dead...
Anyone got a manual? I see lots of requests for it but no replies.

Why guess? It takes like 3 seconds to determine which pins go where by the use of a Digital Multimeter. You would need a meter to locate a suitable power tap too don't you.

I believe your still going to have to press the record button on this radio to get it to pick up the line in/bluetooth

I was thinking if you used the L&R mic inputs instead of the line ins, you wouldn't have to use the record button. Someone else here figured that out, just have to find a quiet spot on the SW tuner.

No,I havn't had time. The mic inputs would be ok,too. But a SW radio club opened near me last year,so all channels are blurry,with interruptions now. FM transmitter is actually quieter than SW now. Thats why I gotta think of another way.
SD already reminded me that I cant override a radio channel. That would've been perfect on the knob.
I'll figure it out sometime this winter holiday hopefully.

To be clear, I'm saying FM, AM, and SW are not audio sources. These are "bands" in a tuner, which IS a source. So while the Bluetooth device, a CD, Cassette, and Tuner are all audio sources that you can switch between, you can not swap out a band (which isn't technically an audio source) for another audio source.

I did mention that in another project I did for Mellylelsr, I modified his Wards Airline Gen 3996 with a simple 1/8" (3.5mm) switched jack to switch out the tuner for an Aux-in connection. You can modify yours either in this manner or some other creative method to toggle one source for another. This can be via either a switched jack, a hidden switch or existing but repurposed switch to trigger a low power relay.

Yeah,I realize I made a mistake thinking I could swap a band like a function selection. I just keep looking at SW2 on the knob and wish it had the BT symbol....
I'll think of something,probably just a gaudy blue light-up on/off push button somewhere,Haha.
I have all winter to think about it.

Do you still record tapes?
If not you can repurpose the red push button as a switch to turn your Bluetooth module on and off.
If you do still play tapes you can connect the tape motor's negative wire to the button too. This way the motor will be turned off when Bluetooth is on and the other way around.
Also, I highly recommend buying an 1/1 isolated(!) dc/dc converter, if not you will have loads of noise due to ground loops. And if you try to break the ground loop by disconnecting the module's ground wire, there will noise from currents traveling through the audio cable.
You can buy 10 pieces for 10 bucks here in Europe. It's definitely worth it.

I'll need to study more this weekend.
It looks like by adding this on/on switch,
will cut the radio and activate power to bluetooth,while the boombox is in radio mode(power on).
Is that right? That would be good.

Yes, its right - when you in radio mode:
push button ON - bluetooth mode.
push button OFF - return to radio mode.

When you start this mod, please make pics.
Check with digital voltmeter for +12 v and ground,
before make connections, to avoid mistakes.
