Explosively loud crackling for a few seconds after pressing play. After that, tape playback sounds fine.
I cleaned all controls w deoxit but problem remains.
Researched it on the internet. Other RX-5050’s seem to have this problem but could not find any answers for troubleshooting or a fix.
Ideas?

I suspect the issue most likely lies with the record/playback switch needing cleaning. This switch presents as a very long rectangular bar on the main circuit board, and is the source of a great many boombox related issues. Barring that, the next thing I would suspect are worn caps that charge up when current initially flows through them.

Thanks for the suggestions will put them on the troubleshooting list!
