I picked up a bargain basement Panasonic RX-CT900 with some mildly interesting extras. For starters it had two very nice cassettes inside. A Sony FX II and an Agfa C-DX II, probably worth a good portion of what I paid for the box.

Then, on opening the battery compartment, I found clock batteries! From 1993!! They've been in there for 30 years. They have the tiniest bit of corrosion which had not affected the contacts.

That's impressive! Batteries back then were certainly robust!
It would quite a surprise to hear what's on those tapes as well. That in itself will be time machines to the past I'm sure

The sony is blank. But the agfa has some radio recordings of English comedians. I recognised the catchphrase 'Can you hear me mother?' from Sandy Powel. There is a story by Charlie Drake. I'm really enjoying listening, some quite funny jokes considering the age. 1940s?

'The doctor has told me to take things quietly.'

'That's a shame, you were so fond of soup. '
