Hello guys, I have acquired this Hitachi and one other Hitachi boombox from a family member. Her husband was a distributor to country stores in Central California back in the 70s and 80s. They were contracted with Hitachi electronics and she still had a couple radios laying around (I also got a Black 60s Hitachi worldwide receiver eight band). This later TRK model is the more usable on though has it has left and right rca jacks that I can plug my iPhone into and use as a desktop speaker system for music. I also love the look of both units and just like to have them out.

My problem is the TRK head unit makes a buzzing sound sometimes accompanied by a screeching sound when its on. The speakers sound great but its ruined by the head unit buzzing/screeching. Does anyone know how to fix this? I really want to enjoy this stereo but I cant at the moment.

I included a video of the buzzing. Thank you

You might need to work the Record Bar back and forth easiest way to do this is to put a tape in that you can record on press record and play at the same time or whatever it takes to make it record then press stop and then repeat the same process several times what this does is works the switch a little bit so it gets better contact.

So just try recording on a tape?

He wants you to press record then stop numerous times to work the record bar back and forth which is inside the radio.
When you press record, it moves the record bar one way then when you press stop, the record bar slides back to it's original position.
When you press record then stop repeatedly, the record bar slides back and forth and that movement can sometimes help.

Oh okay that makes sense
I also got a video of the screeching. Not sure if that changes anything

This is the screeching noise. Is your advice the same?
