I feel at this point comfortable showcasing the boom boxes I have. All minus a couple work well to their fullest capacities...mostly Panasonic early 80s RX models.
I just acquired the 5085 in a stunningly minty shape. Though to my surprise I find that the 5050 produces the strongest output, hails high power of them all...even the Sony CFS500 which I enjoy the sound and odd number 3 band equalizer rather decent, producing a more crisp sound as well...the 5025 is certainly a lower budget unit with only a tone plus balance and no ambience nor stereo mono select, good for garage/shed tunage...good starter...For compact size my favorite and actually most used is the 4975 with the 4 band equalizer, along with the balance I found the output rather magnificent and visually striking...ideal for the beach if back in the way day ago...my first boom box was the F35 or love call I believe compact very neat display cosmetics wise...sadly it very much needs a whole new deck drive replace so perhaps their will be a time for it perform compact cassette listening...then their is my absolutely least favorite why did I pay money for JVC model RC363JW whatever small compact, looks wise neat, output, absolutely dreadful, no point using your tapes unless you softly listen to Mozart often or something. It works fully but with no balance and all sound outputs essentially equally shot...”biphonic/wise” stereo mono...stands as display, more ideal for radio talk show listening...have not found any fun use for...I don’t think I’ll invest in JVC in this...lastly the unit that got me into investing in a small collection here is what I feel the under appreciated perhaps 1988 Panasonic FW29 dual...Now with my experience the deck b on most book boxes that have a dual usually is wasted or regurgitates your media, luckily it’s function is primarily for record playback. I know what belt to replace to fix it, but it’s a rather tricky business that I’m not interested in, during surgery with...this one stands out because of its portability, 5 band equalizer and most of all! Auto reverse! That works swimmingly, I’m quite found of the output, it blasts good, my neighbor asked if turn down the hair metal I was firing when doing a outdoor car clean out...so it gets up there volume and decent bass levels...I got second unit that I travel with. So here it is, a start...oh! Not imaged is a 5080 but little roughed up, works, but have it showcased at my little shop, also a 5005, works but definitely a budget blaster, sound not so great...not a great pick up, also little roughed up. No photos on those two for now. Thank you boom box community.
